W/ PHENOLIC WHEELS

Swivel & Rigid Phenolic Wheel Casters

Phenolic wheel casters are a proven industrial standard for high-load rolling on smooth concrete floors. These casters combine excellent weight capacity with low rolling resistance, making them a common specification for carts, racks, and material handling equipment.

Why phenolic casters are specified

  • High load capacity without flat-spotting under static loads
  • Excellent resistance to oil, grease, gasoline, and mild chemicals
  • Non-sparking, non-metallic wheel tread
  • Lower cost alternative to steel wheels with reduced floor wear

Wheel construction

Phenolic wheels are compression-molded from phenolic resin reinforced with macerated fabric under high pressure and temperature. The result is a dense, rigid wheel optimized for durability and long service life.

Tread material
Phenolic resin composite
Durometer
~90 Shore D (±5)
Temperature range
-50°F to 250°F
Bearing options
Roller, ball, or tapered roller (model dependent)

Common applications

  • Warehouse carts and order-picking equipment
  • Retail stock carts and back-of-house equipment
  • Manufacturing fixtures and material handling racks
  • Dry indoor environments with smooth concrete floors
Important application limitations

Phenolic wheels are not recommended for wet environments or washdown applications. Prolonged exposure to water can cause swelling and long-term degradation. These wheels also perform best on smooth floors and are not ideal for debris, cracked concrete, or uneven surfaces.

Best fit for

  • OEM equipment builders
  • MRO and facilities maintenance teams
  • Procurement and operations managers
  • Engineers specifying cost-effective high-load mobility
