All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
The S34 Series is CasterHQ’s 2″-wide-wheel stainless steel caster line — engineered for daily washdown environments in food processing, beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and any application where a standard zinc-plated steel caster yoke would corrode within months. 94 styles spanning 4″ / 5″ / 6″ / 8″ wheel diameters in polyurethane, glass-filled nylon, phenolic, and stainless wheel materials. Capacity to 1,250 lb per caster on the standard 4″ x 4-1/2″ top plate. All-stainless yoke, swivel raceway, kingpin, and hardware.

| Wheel Material | Capacity (5″ / 6″ / 8″) | Floor & Environment |
|---|---|---|
| Polyurethane on Stainless | 700 / 1,000 / 1,250 lb | Daily washdown, non-marking, longest service life |
| Glass-Filled Nylon | 700 / 1,000 / 1,250 lb | Steam cycles, autoclave-safe, dimensional stability |
| Phenolic on Stainless | 800 / 1,200 / 1,250 lb | High-temp washdown (to 450°F), bakery proofing |
| Stainless Steel Wheel | 800 / 1,000 / 1,250 lb | Aggressive chemical exposure, no polymer compatibility issues |
Every component of an S34 caster is 304 stainless — yoke, top plate, swivel raceway balls, kingpin, axle. Standard zinc-plated steel casters corrode within 6-18 months in daily washdown environments because the cleaning chemicals (quaternary ammonium, dilute bleach, peracetic acid) penetrate the zinc plating and attack the steel underneath. The S34 stainless construction eliminates that failure mode — expected service life in continuous washdown is 8-12 years vs. 1-2 years for plated-steel equivalents.
The 2″ tread width is the dominant medium-heavy industrial spec in food processing — matches the conveyor cart, mobile bin, and stainless prep table mounts at most US food and beverage producers. The 4″ x 4-1/2″ top plate is the same dimensions as the equivalent zinc-steel caster, so a daily-washdown plant upgrading from plated steel to S34 doesn’t need to modify any equipment.
304 stainless steel is the standard construction grade across all S34 yokes, raceways, and hardware. 316 stainless (higher chloride resistance for marine and seafood processing) is available on special order — expect 2-3 week lead time and roughly 30% cost premium over the 304 standard.
The wheel materials (polyurethane, glass-filled nylon, phenolic) carry NSF food-grade certifications. The stainless yoke construction is independently NSF-rated for food-contact equipment. Full NSF documentation available on request — email info@casterhq.com with the S34 part number.
S34 stainless is the most-aggressive-chemical-resistant choice — handles peracetic acid, daily bleach exposure, and high-pressure steam without any concern about hub corrosion. Poly-on-aluminum is the cost-effective washdown option — aluminum hub forms protective oxide and holds up in standard food processing washdown but isn’t rated for the most aggressive chemical environments. Use S34 for pharma, dairy production, meat/poultry processing. Use poly-on-aluminum for standard food-service and lighter washdown.
1,250 lb per caster at the 8″ x 2″ size. For higher capacity in stainless construction, see the broader Stainless Casters S304 Grade collection — specialty heavy stainless variants reach 2,500-3,000 lb per caster.
Yes. Side-lock and total-lock brake variants are stocked across the 5″-8″ wheel sizes. The total-lock variant is the spec for parked food-prep tables and stainless mobile bins. Specify the part number with -TLB suffix for total-lock or -SLB for side-lock.
