Load calculation rule: Always divide your total cart/equipment weight (at maximum load) by the number of casters, then add a 25% safety margin. Under-rating casters is the #1 cause of premature failure we see in the field.
Floor surface drives wheel choice: Polyurethane for smooth concrete/epoxy, rubber for rough or outdoor surfaces, nylon/phenolic for debris-heavy floors. Wrong wheel material increases rolling resistance by 30–50%.
Kingpinless above 1,500 lbs: For loads exceeding 1,500 lbs per caster, we always recommend kingpinless swivel designs. They eliminate the kingpin failure point and last 3–5x longer than kingpin casters under heavy loads.
Environment first: Wet/washdown → stainless steel. High heat → phenolic or glass-filled nylon. Outdoor → pneumatic or rubber. Chemical exposure → stainless + polyurethane. Match the environment before matching the load.
