All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
The 2-1/2" x 1" size is small-equipment territory: instrument carts, light fixtures, compact machine bases, and OEM equipment where space is tight. Hamilton and other industrial makers build metal, rubber, and polyurethane wheels in this size for applications where a furniture caster won't do but a 3-inch is too big.

Most 2-1/2" casters in the world are furniture casters — unrated, soft, built for chairs and light carts. The industrial 2-1/2" x 1" is a different part: rated bearings, rated materials, a published capacity. Hamilton's metal-wheel builds in this size (the R-222-1/2 family and similar) exist because OEM equipment makers and instrument builders need a genuinely small caster that still carries a real, documented load. If you're replacing a caster on a precision instrument or compact machine and it measures 2-1/2", a furniture caster is the wrong replacement — this is the right one.
Maximum capacity in a tiny package. For compact machine bases and equipment where the load is concentrated and the floor is hard.
Quieter roll, some cushion, non-marking. For instrument and lab carts on finished floors.
Floor protection plus moderate capacity. The general-purpose pick for small equipment on finished surfaces.
