All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
Air filled caster wheels — 8" and 10" pneumatic casters built for outdoor industrial carts, scaffold dollies, and rough-terrain service. 4-ply industrial tire construction, sealed precision bearings, 250 to 350 lb single-caster capacity. Swivel, rigid, brake, and rig-only options. Stocked at our Mansfield, TX facility.

Standard-duty 8" and 10" pneumatic casters for outdoor service. Configuration drives mounting and brake choice.
| Diameter | Configuration | Plate Size | Capacity | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8" | Swivel | 4" x 4-1/2" | 250 lb | Outdoor utility carts, light scaffolds |
| 8" | Rigid | 4" x 4-1/2" | 250 lb | Pair with swivels for stable rolling |
| 8" | Swivel w/ Brake | 4" x 4-1/2" | 250 lb | Carts that must stop on slopes |
| 10" | Swivel | 4" x 4-1/2" | 350 lb | Outdoor industrial carts, generator dollies |
| 10" | Rigid | 4" x 4-1/2" | 350 lb | Pair with swivels for higher payload |
| 10" | Swivel w/ Brake | 4" x 4-1/2" | 350 lb | Heaviest 10" capacity with lock |
| 10" | Swivel Rig-Only | 4" x 4-1/2" | 350 lb | For replacement wheel mounting only |
| 10" | Rigid Rig-Only | 4" x 4-1/2" | 350 lb | Specify when you have your own wheel |
Smooth concrete and asphalt: 8" pneumatic is sufficient. Gravel, grass, dock plates, broken pavement: 10" pneumatic absorbs shock and bridges gaps better. 10" is the safer default for any outdoor service cart.
Brake casters are essential on sloped surfaces, loading docks, and any cart that must stop and stay. Plain swivel works on level outdoor floors. Mix 2 swivel-w/-brake + 2 rigid for stable straight-line travel with stop capability.
Rig-only ships without the wheel installed — specify when you already have a compatible 8" or 10" wheel and just need the swivel or rigid frame and plate. Saves 30-40% vs full caster on wheel-only replacements.
250-350 lb per caster covers most outdoor utility carts and 4-wheel scaffold dollies. For higher capacity outdoor service, step up to heavy-duty dual-wheel pneumatic (1,200-7,600 lb single-caster capacity).
8" handles smooth outdoor surfaces (paved driveways, indoor-outdoor transition zones). 10" handles rough gravel, grass, dock plates, and uneven terrain. For truly rough off-road terrain (construction yards, rocky paths), step up to 12" or 16" pneumatic.
Ply rating describes how many reinforcement layers the tire carcass has. 4-ply is the standard for industrial caster pneumatics — resists punctures from gravel and rough surfaces. 2-ply (lawn equipment grade) is too light for industrial daily use.
8" pneumatic: 250 lb per caster, ~1,000 lb total for a 4-wheel cart with safety margin. 10" pneumatic: 350 lb per caster, ~1,400 lb total. For higher capacity, dual-wheel pneumatic handles 1,200-7,600 lb single-caster.
Yes. 8" and 10" pneumatic casters are commonly specified on Baker scaffolds, perry scaffolds, and 4-wheel scaffold dollies up to 1,000 lb load. Pair 2 swivel-w/-brake casters with 2 rigid for straight-line stability with positive lock.
Rig-only ships with the swivel or rigid yoke and mounting plate but NO wheel. Use when you already have a compatible 8" or 10" wheel from a prior caster failure. Costs 30-40% less than a complete caster. Confirm bearing bore and hub width match your existing wheel before ordering.
Three approaches: (1) maintain proper 30-35 PSI cold pressure, (2) keep carts away from sharp debris and construction zones, (3) for high-flat-risk service, switch to foam-filled or solid thermo rubber — punctureless alternatives at slightly higher cost and weight.
Yes — they roll smoothly on concrete. The trade-off is added wheel height (8-10") raises the cart deck. For indoor-only carts, 4-6" polyurethane or thermo rubber gives lower rolling resistance and a lower deck. Pneumatic is over-spec for purely indoor use.
No — brakes are integrated into the caster body at the factory. To add brake capability, replace the caster with a brake-equipped version of the same size. Don't attempt to retrofit a brake to a non-brake caster — weld and bolt-on aftermarket brakes void the load rating.
