Noise from a caster comes from a hard wheel hitting seams and debris, and from a loose swivel chattering. These casters attack both. The thermo rubber tread is soft, so it flexes over joints instead of banging across them, and the kingpinless swivel has no center bolt to wear loose [S1].

Soft rubber takes more effort to start rolling than a hard wheel under the same load, and it can take a flat spot if a heavy load sits for weeks. If noise is not a concern and loads are high, polyurethane is the better tread.
