The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.

Pneumatic caster wheels use air-filled rubber tires to absorb shock and roll over gravel, grass, expansion joints, and uneven surfaces. Available in 8" to 16" diameters, rated 200 to 1,200 lbs per caster. In-stock orders ship same day when placed by 3 PM CT.
Most hand truck wheels use 8-inch or 10-inch diameters with a centered bore for a 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch axle. 8-inch is standard on two-wheeled hand trucks; 10-inch is common on panel and appliance carts.
Diameter affects step-over height and rolling resistance. A larger wheel clears curbs and cracks more easily. Stick with 8-inch for tight stairwells; move to 10-inch when rolling over rough pavement or door thresholds.
Standard hand truck wheels are rated 200 to 400 lbs per wheel — 400 to 800 lbs total for a two-wheel hand truck. Apply the 33% safety derate on four-wheel configurations.
Solid rubber wheels carry slightly more static load than pneumatic, with no risk of going flat under a parked load. Pneumatic absorbs shock on rough terrain. Rated capacity is per-caster at ideal conditions. For carts, apply a 33% safety derate.
Solid rubber handles smooth warehouse floors and indoor environments where puncture resistance matters most. Pneumatic is better for gravel, asphalt, grass, and loading docks with gaps.
Solid rubber requires zero maintenance and will not flat-spot under static load. For routes that go outside — delivery, nurseries, construction — pneumatic absorbs vibration without bouncing the load.
Match three measurements: wheel diameter, bore diameter, and hub length. Most hand truck frames use a 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch solid axle. Hub length must fit between your frame legs without binding.
Measure between the inside faces of your frame legs — that is your required hub length. Too short and the wheel wobbles; too long and it will not seat. Our engineers can confirm fitment if you send the frame brand and model.
Yes. Replacing a hand truck wheel takes under five minutes: remove the axle nut, slide off the old wheel, slide on the new one, reinstall the nut.
Match bore size and hub length exactly. If the original wheel had a ball bearing insert, replace with a ball-bearing wheel — sleeve-bearing replacements wear faster. In-stock wheels ship same day.
Three steps: (1) Total cart weight ÷ number of casters × 1.5 safety factor = minimum per-caster rating. (2) Measure the tallest obstacle on your route — wheel diameter should be at least 3× that height for clean rollover. (3) Match axle bore: 3/4" for most 8"–12" pneumatic wheels, 1" for 16" heavy-duty models.
