Industrial Caster FAQs, Answered by Our Engineers

What is the best caster for concrete floors?

For concrete floors, polyurethane-on-iron or cast iron wheels are the top choice. They roll easily, resist chips and gouges from cracks or debris, and handle loads from 500 lb to 10,000+ lb per caster. Avoid soft rubber on rough concrete, it wears fast.

How do I choose the right caster wheel size?

Bigger wheels roll easier, handle obstacles better, and last longer. As a rule: 4" for light loads under 300 lb, 5"–6" for medium industrial carts, 8"–10" for heavy-duty applications over 1,000 lb per caster, and 12"+ for extreme duty. Match wheel material to floor type and load.

Plate casters vs stem casters, which do I need?

Use plate casters when you have a flat mounting surface and want maximum load capacity and stability. Use stem casters (threaded, expanding, or grip-ring) when you need to fit into a tube, leg, or chair base. Plate casters handle more weight; stem casters install faster in round tubing.

What caster load capacity do I actually need?

Add the total loaded cart weight (cart + max payload), divide by 3 instead of 4 (in case one caster lifts off uneven floors), then add a 33% safety margin. Example: 2,000 lb total ÷ 3 = 667 lb, × 1.33 = 890 lb per caster minimum.

Do you ship same day?

Yes, orders placed before 3 PM CT on in-stock casters ship same day from our USA warehouse. Custom configurations and specialty casters typically ship in 1–3 business days.

Can CasterHQ handle OEM and volume orders?

Yes. We supply OEMs, Fortune 500 manufacturers, and MRO programs with bulk pricing, custom specs, scheduled releases, and dedicated account management. Contact our OEM team for a quote.
