All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.

Low profile casters are clearance-sensitive caster assemblies with reduced overall height — typically 2-3/16" to 4-5/32" OAH — engineered for equipment where vertical space is constrained. CasterHQ stocks 53 configurations rated up to 800 lb per caster for vending machines, server racks, medical equipment, refrigeration systems, and OEM machinery builds.
Low profile casters are caster assemblies with overall heights (OAH) between 2-3/16" and 4-5/32", designed for equipment where clearance beneath the frame is limited. They're specified when standard 4" or 5" casters won't fit: vending machines, server racks, reach-in refrigerators, medical carts, dental chairs, under-desk mobility bases, and OEM machinery with tight base assemblies. Load capacity typically caps at 800 lb per caster because reducing wheel diameter reduces both load surface and bearing envelope.
Measure from the mounting surface (underside of equipment frame or plate) to the floor, then subtract 1/8" clearance for finish variance. That number is your maximum OAH. For plate-mount casters, include the plate thickness in OAH (most plates are 3/16"). For stem-mount, measure inside the receiver bore and add stem-engagement depth. Example: if equipment clearance is 3-1/2" and you need 1/8" gap, specify OAH ≤ 3-3/8" — our 3" Series 03 hits 3-1/2" OAH, which is too tall; pick the 2" 01 Series instead.
01 Series (2" wheel, 2-3/16" OAH, up to 300 lb) — best for vending, retail fixtures, server carts. 03 Series (3" wheel, ~3-1/2" OAH, up to 500 lb) — best for medical equipment, refrigeration, heavy shop fixtures. 05 Series (3" wheel, up to 4-5/32" OAH, up to 800 lb per caster) — OEM machinery, transformer bases, heavy refrigeration. Dual-wheel total-locking (up to 180 lb/caster) — medical and office mobility bases where swivel-plus-wheel lock is required. Apply the N-1 load rule below to size correctly.
What is the shortest low profile caster you stock? The 01 Series 2" wheel in plate-mount measures 2-3/16" OAH — the shortest industrial-rated caster we stock.
Can I get low profile with a total-lock brake? Yes. Total-lock is available on the 05 Series (3" wheel, up to 800 lb) and on all dual-wheel configurations up to 180 lb per caster.
What mount pattern do your plate casters use? Standard is 2-1/2" × 3-5/8" with 5/16" bolt holes — matches most vending, refrigeration, and medical OEMs. Custom patterns available on 100+ unit orders.
Do you make custom low profile casters? Yes, on minimums of 100+ per configuration. Custom work typically adds 3-4 weeks lead time. Call 844-439-4335 for engineering review.
Are low profile casters stainless steel? Zinc-plated is standard; full 304 stainless is available on the 03 and 05 Series for clean room, food service, and marine applications.
Divide by 3, not 4, because uneven floors cause one caster to temporarily lift — redistributing the load to 3. Multiply by 1.25 for dynamic impact (rolling over dock plates, seams, thresholds). Example: a 1,200 lb vending machine needs casters rated ≥ 500 lb each (1,200 ÷ 3 × 1.25).
| Series | Wheel Dia. | OAH | Capacity | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 Series Shortest | 2" | 2-3/16" – 2-1/2" | Up to 300 lb | Vending, retail fixtures, server carts |
| 03 Series | 3" | ~3-1/2" | Up to 500 lb | Medical, refrigeration, shop fixtures |
| 05 Series Heavy | 3" | Up to 4-5/32" | Up to 800 lb | OEM machinery, transformers, heavy refrigeration |
| Dual-Wheel Total Lock | 2-1/2" | 3-1/8" | Up to 180 lb | Medical, office mobility bases |
Our server cabinets had 3-3/8" clearance — no off-the-shelf caster fit. CasterHQ's 01 Series 2-3/16" OAH with total-lock solved it, and we retrofit 480 cabinets across four data centers. Zero chassis damage in 24 months of rolling on raised floor.
