The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.

Pneumatic (air-filled) tires grip uneven surfaces like concrete with expansion joints, asphalt cracks, gravel, and dirt far better than solid wheels because the tire flexes and conforms to terrain. The cushioning effect reduces vibration and impact transmission to the equipment, protecting sensitive cargo and reducing operator fatigue during hand-pushing. Pneumatic casters are the standard for outdoor equipment, field service, construction sites, and agriculture where solid wheels would bounce and lose control.
Air-filled pneumatic casters provide the best cushioning and grip but require periodic pressure checks and tire maintenance; they can puncture on sharp objects. Foam-filled pneumatic casters deliver 85-90% of the cushioning of air-filled tires while being maintenance-free and puncture-proof; they're ideal for industrial environments where downtime for flat repairs is unacceptable.
