Flanged Track Wheels — Hamilton WFT Series for Crane Runways, up to 18,000 lb

Flanged wheels run on flat steel rail (not V-rail). A vertical flange on one side of the wheel keeps it centered on the rail, while the flat tread carries the load. Used for overhead crane runways, gantry crane bridges, factory transfer systems, and any application where the cart or trolley runs on flat rail rather than V-rail. The 172 Hamilton WFT series products on this page span 6″ through 12″ cast iron flanged wheels at capacities from 5,000 lb up to 18,000 lb per wheel.

Flanged vs V-grooved — which one for your application?

Flanged track wheels (this page)

Run on flat steel rail (typically 3-4 inch wide channel iron or square bar). The vertical flange on one side keeps the wheel on the rail. Single-flange variants (most common) run with the flange on one specific side; double-flange variants run between two parallel rails. Used for overhead crane runways, gantry bridges, and applications where flat rail is already installed.

V-grooved track wheels

Run on inverted-V steel rail (peaked steel bar). The V-shaped groove in the wheel tread rides the rail apex. Self-centering — gravity returns the wheel to centered after any lateral shift. Used for production-line conveyors, factory transfer systems, and applications where the V-rail can be welded or anchored to the floor. See V-Grooved Track Casters for that catalog.

The two are NOT interchangeable

Flanged wheels can’t ride on V-rail (the flat tread bottoms on the V-apex). V-grooved wheels can’t ride on flat rail (the groove leaves no flat contact patch). Match wheel type to the rail type your installation uses.

What does the H or T suffix mean in WFT part numbers?

H = Heavy (single-flange standard). T = Track (double-flange for between-rails applications). The number after the dash is the bore size (1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, 3/4″, etc.) which determines the bearing assembly that fits. Hamilton publishes the full WFT part number breakdown in their technical catalog.

Are these wheels for overhead cranes only?

Most commonly yes — overhead crane runways and bridges. But also used on factory transfer carts that run on flat-rail track installations, gantry crane bridge beams, and some heavy industrial production-line transfer systems. The unifying feature is the application uses FLAT rail (not V-rail).

What bore sizes do I need?

3/4″, 1-1/4″, 1-1/2″, and 2-7/16″ are the four common bore sizes in the WFT series. The bore matches the bearing assembly your existing yoke uses — pull a worn wheel and measure the bore, or reference the OEM yoke part for spec. Wrong bore = wheel won’t fit.

How do these ship?

Almost all flanged track wheels ship LTL freight due to weight (an 8-7/8″ cast iron flanged wheel weighs 45-65 lb; the 12″ variants weigh 80-100+ lb). Stock items at Mansfield, TX ship within 1-2 business days. Specialty configurations and replacement orders for crane manufacturers may have 3-5 day lead time.
