Why formed aluminum vs welded steel

B&P’s PTF series uses formed aluminum diamond-plate construction — the deck is bent from a single sheet of 6061-T6 aluminum with NO welds in the deck surface. The advantages over welded steel platform trucks: (1) the formed deck is roughly 60% lighter than equivalent welded steel, so the empty cart pushes easier; (2) no weld points means no weld failure mode under repeated cargo impact; (3) aluminum doesn’t rust, which matters in food processing, washdown, and humid warehouse environments; (4) the formed deck has a higher fatigue resistance than welded construction over a typical 10-15 year service life.

For the heaviest applications (above 2,000 lb deck capacity), B&P’s welded platform trucks step in — see the Welded Platform Trucks collection for the higher-capacity steel variants.

Common questions on B&P PTF platform trucks

T-handle vs Straight-handle — which one?

T-handle (perpendicular to push direction): allows two-handed pushing with one hand on each side of the T — better for heavy loads and long-haul push distances. Straight-handle (parallel to push direction): single-hand operation, narrower clearance through doorways, faster maneuvering. Most warehouse buyers go T-handle for the operator ergonomics.

Why is the wheel non-marking?

Non-marking polyurethane tread doesn’t transfer color or residue to floor surfaces. Required spec for retail, healthcare, hospitality, and finished commercial floors where wheel marks would show. The PTF series ships standard with non-marking poly. Rubber-tread alternatives available on special order for outdoor or rough-floor applications.

How does the deck attach to the chassis?

The formed aluminum deck rivets to a steel chassis frame underneath. The deck is structural — load transfers directly through the deck into the chassis perimeter. No center support pillars to dent under heavy point loads.

How do these ship?

LTL freight in all cases due to deck dimensions. Stock orders ship within 1 business day from Mansfield, TX. Freight class and weight quote at order placement.
