The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.

Pneumatic tires are air-filled tire-and-rim assemblies that cushion the ride and roll over debris, gravel, and thresholds where a hard wheel would stop. Use pneumatic tires anywhere the load has to roll over rough or outdoor ground — gravel lots, grass, dock plates, or debris. The air chamber absorbs shock that would transfer straight into the load on a hard wheel, which is why hand trucks, garden and utility carts, and portable equipment run them.
Skip pneumatic on smooth indoor concrete under constant load — the tire flexes, adds rolling resistance, and can go flat. There, a polyurethane wheel rolls easier and never needs air.
Pneumatic tire sizes read as overall diameter, section width, and rim diameter — for example 4.10/3.50-4 means a 4-inch rim with a 3.50-inch section. Match all three numbers plus the hub (bore and length) when replacing a tire, not just the outside diameter.
Common CasterHQ sizes run 8″ and 10″ overall for hand trucks and carts. Send the numbers molded on the sidewall if you are unsure.
Choose flat-free foam-filled tires when downtime from a puncture is unacceptable — shops with weld slag, scrap, or nails. They ride slightly firmer than true pneumatic but never go flat and never need air.
Stay with true pneumatic when ride comfort and maximum cushion matter more than puncture risk, such as delicate-load carts on rough outdoor ground.
CasterHQ pneumatic tires carry from 250 lb to 1,400 lb per wheel. Rated capacity is per wheel at correct inflation; under-inflation drops capacity fast and flat-spots the tire. For carts and dollies, apply a 33% safety derate for uneven ground — on four wheels, only three carry the load at any moment.
Measure the axle bore (inside diameter of the hub) and the hub length (bearing face to bearing face). A tire that fits the diameter but has the wrong bore or hub length will not seat on your axle. Offset hubs push the tire to one side for hand trucks; centered hubs sit symmetric for caster and equipment mounts. Replacement hand truck wheels use the same measurements.
The two mistakes we see: buying by outside diameter alone and ignoring the hub bore, and running pneumatic on smooth indoor floors where a poly wheel would last longer. Match bore, hub length, and offset before diameter.
