Standard rubber caster wheels use a single layer of compounded rubber bonded to a core. Super cushion rubber adds extra material thickness — typically 30–50% more tread depth — which dramatically improves shock absorption and load distribution. The result is a caster that rolls more smoothly over gaps, drain covers, and surface transitions while applying less point pressure to floors. This makes them the go-to choice when you're carrying 300–450 lbs and can't afford to scratch floors or jar equipment.
Super cushion rubber is non-marking and floor-safe on hardwood, tile, polished concrete, vinyl plank, epoxy coatings, and linoleum. The soft compound deforms slightly under load, spreading contact pressure and eliminating the point loading that causes scratches and gouging. They perform well even on freshly finished floors common in hotel ballrooms, hospital corridors, and restaurant kitchens. Always verify the caster is free of embedded debris before rolling on sensitive surfaces.

Always calculate using 75% of the four-caster total to account for uneven load distribution and dynamic forces during movement — so plan for equipment under 1,350 lbs gross weight. Yes — the larger wheel diameter (6″–8″) combined with the extra-thick rubber tread makes super cushion casters exceptionally good at rolling over surface irregularities. They bridge small gaps, absorb vibration from expansion joints and floor seams, and transition between surface types without jarring. This makes them common on IV poles, heavy laundry carts, and catering equipment that moves through multiple floor zones.
Super cushion rubber casters are available with both swivel and rigid configurations, and with plate or stem mounts. Plate-mount swivel casters suit most cart applications. Stem mounts (round, threaded, and grip ring) work well for lighter equipment with pre-drilled mounting holes. Brake options include total-lock brakes for stationary positioning and directional locks for parking with steering capability. For equipment that sits stationary most of the time but moves occasionally, add a total-lock brake to at least two of your super cushion casters. The soft rubber tread grips the floor well, but a locked caster prevents the slow drift that happens when heavy loads are on sloped floors or in rooms with HVAC airflow.
