All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
V-grooved track casters self-align on inverted-V steel rail — the wheel’s V-shaped tread groove rides the rail apex and gravity keeps the wheel centered, eliminating the wander and rail-walk that plagues flat-tread track applications. The 87 products on this page are predominantly Hamilton W-V Series (Iron V-Grooved) and EPSD/MD-FVT forged steel variants — capacity range 325 lb on the smallest 3″ stainless up to 10,000 lb per caster on the 10″ x 4″ EPSD-104FVT forged steel. Used for production-line conveyors, factory transfer carts, gantry crane runways, paint line tracks, and any application where the cart must follow a fixed path under load.

| CH-VT (Cast V-grooved tapered) | 4″-8″ cast iron | Tapered roller | 1,000 - 3,000 lb | R-CH-6VT (6x2-3/4 cast 3,000 lb) |
A flat-tread caster on a flat rail relies on the rail edges to keep the wheel centered — under any lateral load (a cart bumping into the rail, an off-center load pushing sideways), the wheel walks toward the rail edge and eventually falls off. V-grooved wheels solve this by inverting the geometry: the rail itself is an inverted V (peaked steel bar welded or anchored to the floor), and the wheel’s V-shaped groove rides on top of it. Gravity, plus the angled contact surfaces, automatically pull the wheel back to centered whenever it shifts sideways. The result: a cart loaded to the wheel’s rated capacity rolls straight down the track at 3 mph (Hamilton’s published rolling speed for the EPSD-104FVT 10,000 lb caster) without operator correction.
The trade-off is that V-grooved wheels only work on V-rail track — you can’t roll them on standard floors (the V-groove rides on the floor edge and causes wear). For applications that need to leave the track and roll on standard concrete, see Hamilton’s F (flanged) wheel series instead, which has a flanged side that can ride on flat floors when needed.
The standard inverted-V rail is 1-3/8″ or 1-3/4″ wide at the base with a 60° included angle (each side of the V at 30° from vertical). Hamilton’s W-V Series wheel grooves match this profile. For non-standard V-rail (some custom factory installations use 90° included angle V), the wheel groove geometry differs — email info@casterhq.com with the rail cross-section dimensions for a match.
Briefly, yes — for crossing aisles or moving the cart off the track for maintenance. The V-groove rides on the floor at two narrow contact points which transfers load to a small area and accelerates floor wear. For continuous on-and-off-track operation, specify Hamilton’s F (flanged) series wheels instead — these have a flanged outer rim that rides on flat floors when off-track.
The Hamilton EPSD-104FVT (10″ x 4″ forged steel V-grooved swivel) at 10,000 lb per caster — with the 1-1/4″ precision tapered roller bearing rated for 3 mph rolling speed. For 4-caster cart configurations: 40,000 lb static cart capacity. Caster Concepts manufactures heavier V-grooved variants reaching 16,000 lb per caster for steel mill and aerospace applications — available on special order via CasterHQ.
Yes — the Hamilton R-STL-3SVB and STL-SVB stainless variants are stocked for food processing, pharma, and washdown V-track applications. Capacity range 325-1,200 lb per caster on stainless construction. NSF documentation available for the stainless line at info@casterhq.com.
Both. The W-V wheel-only variants ship without a yoke for installing into existing OEM caster yokes. The swivel (S-prefix) and rigid (R-prefix) variants ship as complete casters with top plates — typically the 4″ x 4-1/2″ medium-heavy industrial plate, with larger 4-1/2″ x 6-1/4″ and 6-1/2″ x 7-1/2″ plates on the heaviest FVT variants. Verify your existing equipment plate before ordering.
Hamilton is the dominant V-grooved manufacturer; cross-reference is supported when you bring a Hamilton W-V or FVT part number. For competitor V-grooved (Caster Concepts, Albion track wheels, Faultless), email info@casterhq.com with the existing part for a Hamilton-equivalent match. Stock casters ship same day from Mansfield, TX before 3 pm Central. Heavier FVT variants ship LTL freight on fleet quantities.
