72" x 36" Oak Deck Platform Cart — 8" Kingpinless Swivel Casters, 3,750 lb Working Capacity

This is a built-to-order 6 ft x 3 ft solid oak deck cart on four 8" x 2" kingpinless swivel casters with orange ergonomic polyurethane-on-aluminum wheels, 85 Shore A. Each caster is rated 1,250 lb; we publish a 3,750 lb working (rolling) capacity because we derate to three casters, and a 5,000 lb static (parked) capacity. The 72" x 36" oak deck rides on four cross beams for load distribution, and all four casters swivel for full 360° positioning in tight cells and dock areas.

Best for

  • Moving long or oversized assemblies — the 72" deck supports parts that overhang a standard 40" dolly.
  • Manufacturing WIP transfer between cells, weld booths, and paint lines.
  • MRO and facilities moving motors, gearboxes, pumps, and panels across shop floors.
  • Aerospace and defense shops where a non-marking, low-effort wheel is required on finished floors.
  • Warehouse staging and order consolidation where a pallet footprint is too rigid.
  • Equipment and tooling storage that has to be repositioned without a forklift.
Engineer Tip Four casters almost never share a load equally. Cross an expansion joint, a dock plate, or a floor drain and the cart momentarily rides on three wheels. That is why we publish 3,750 lb working instead of the 5,000 lb the caster ratings would allow: it keeps a real-world load inside the wheel rating even when one corner unloads. Use the 5,000 lb figure only for a parked, fully supported cart.

What is this oak platform cart used for?

It moves heavy, long, or awkward loads across a shop or warehouse floor without a forklift. The 6 ft x 3 ft solid oak deck gives you a flat, forgiving surface that will not gouge machined faces or painted parts the way bare steel can, and the 8" polyurethane wheels roll over shop-floor joints, cords, and debris that stop a 4" or 5" wheel. Typical loads are motors, gearboxes, weldments, panels, tooling carts, and multi-piece kits staged for assembly.

What is the load capacity?

3,750 lb rolling and 5,000 lb static. Each of the four casters carries a 1,250 lb rating, so the theoretical sum is 5,000 lb. We publish the working number at three casters (3 x 1,250 = 3,750 lb) because floor irregularities transfer load off one corner while the cart is moving. Distribute the load over the deck rather than concentrating it at one end, and keep the center of gravity low.

Does it have a brake option?

Not as built — all four casters are swivel with no brake, and brake options are available on request. The same 8" x 2" kingpinless caster class is offered with a face brake, a side lock, and total-lock rigs that stop both the wheel and the swivel. If the cart will park on a grade, at a workstation, or anywhere an operator loads it by hand, specify at least two braked casters. Tell us the application and we will spec it.

Can I get a different caster configuration?

Yes. All four casters swivel as configured, and we build other layouts to order. The common alternatives are 2 rigid / 2 swivel for straight-line tracking down a long aisle, 2 swivel with brakes for parked stability, and total-lock on all four for a cart that doubles as a work surface. Deck size, beam count, and wheel compound can also change. Send us the application and our team will spec the rig.

How does this compare to an 18" x 40" oak furniture dolly?

This cart carries roughly 3.75x the load on a deck about 3.6x the area. An 18" x 40" solid-top oak dolly is a 1,000 lb appliance and furniture tool built to fit a 36" residential doorway on 5" wheels. This is an industrial platform cart: 8" wheels on kingpinless rigs, a 36" wide deck, and four cross beams. Choose the 18" x 40" for doorways and delivery work; choose this one for plant-floor loads that a furniture dolly cannot legally carry.

Why kingpinless casters on a cart this size?

Kingpinless rigs remove the single most common failure point on heavy swivel casters. A conventional swivel caster is held together by a kingpin or king bolt, and shock loading a 3,000 lb cart over a dock plate is what eventually stretches and shears it. A kingpinless raceway spreads that load through a forged, sealed raceway instead. On a cart that will be pushed hard, loaded unevenly, and dropped across floor joints for years, it is the difference between a rebuild and a replacement.

FAQ

What is the working load capacity of this 72" x 36" oak cart?

3,750 lb while rolling. Each of the four casters is rated 1,250 lb and we derate to three casters, because floor joints and dock plates transfer load off one corner in motion. Parked and fully supported, the cart is rated 5,000 lb static.

Are all four casters swivel?

Yes. As configured the cart has four 8" x 2" kingpinless swivel casters for full 360° positioning. Other configurations, including 2 rigid / 2 swivel and braked or total-lock rigs, are built to order. Contact our team with the application.

What wheels are on this cart?

8" diameter x 2" wide ergonomic polyurethane on an aluminum core, 85 Shore A, in orange. The aluminum core keeps rolling resistance and deflection low under load, and the polyurethane tread is non-marking on finished concrete and epoxy floors.

Does the cart come with brakes?

No brakes as built. Face brake, side lock, and total lock are available in the same 8" x 2" kingpinless caster class. We recommend at least two braked casters if the cart is loaded by hand or parked anywhere off level.

How long does it take to build?

1 to 2 weeks. This is a made-to-order cart, not shelf stock. Volume orders and custom deck sizes are quoted on the same lead time basis.

Can I get a different deck size?

Yes. The 72" x 36" deck with four cross beams is our standard build for this cart, and deck length, width, and beam count are all changeable. Send dimensions and load and we will quote it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the load capacity of this caster?+

This 72"x36" Oak Deck Platform Cart 8" Kingpinless Swivel Casters – 3,750 lb is rated to 3,750 lbs per caster. Size a set by dividing the total load by the number of casters, and for uneven floors assume 3 of 4 casters carry the load. Keep continuous-use loads within about 75-80% of the rating.

What wheel does this caster use?+

This caster runs a Polyurethane wheel. Polyurethane protects finished floors, rolls quietly, and resists most chemicals while carrying heavy loads.

Is this a swivel or rigid caster, and how does the brake work?+

This is a Swivel caster. Swivel casters rotate 360 degrees for full maneuverability. For most mobile equipment we recommend 2 swivel + 2 rigid, or 4 swivel with at least 2 brakes.

What floors and applications is it best for?+

The Polyurethane wheel performs best on smooth to semi-smooth floors including sealed concrete, tile, and epoxy. For non-marking or clean-environment needs, ask us about matching tread options.

How do I order, and what are the terms?+

We accept purchase orders and offer Net 30 on approved accounts, ACH, and all major cards, plus tax-exempt ordering with a resale or exemption certificate. Volume discounts apply automatically; request a bulk quote for large or recurring orders. Stock items carry a 30-day return policy in unused condition (made-to-order items are non-returnable once production starts).
