This range covers Hamilton kingpinless casters from 4" to 8" wheel diameter, rated 450 lb to 2,800 lb per caster depending on wheel series and rig. Kingpinless construction removes the central kingpin, the component that fails first on high-cycle heavy duty service, and replaces it with a hardened raceway that carries shock load through the rig rather than through a single bolt. Specify from this range when the load per caster clears roughly 1,000 lb, when the equipment runs multiple shifts, or when a tow line puts side load into the swivel. For the full 1,000 to 16,000 lb span across every series, start from heavy duty casters.
Capacity per caster on the common 8" x 2" rig, taken from the configurations stocked on this page. Smaller 4", 5", and 6" rigs in the same series carry proportionally less; confirm the exact rating on the product page before you specify.

Divide, then add margin. Take total equipment weight plus payload, divide by three rather than four, then add 25 percent. Dividing by three assumes one caster lifts off during a floor transition or over a dock plate, which is when casters actually fail. A 6,000 lb rig on four casters therefore needs roughly 2,500 lb per caster, not 1,500 lb.
Then match the rig, not just the wheel. Capacity in this range is limited by the raceway and the fork as often as by the tread. Two casters with the same wheel can differ by 800 lb on rig alone, which is why the table above compares series at one fixed 8" x 2" size.
Forged steel and cast iron buy capacity, not floors. Metal tread carries the most and tolerates chips and weld spatter, but it marks finished floors and transmits noise. Polyurethane series protect the floor and lower push force at a lower ceiling.
Swivel radius drives aisle clearance. An 8" rig swings a wider arc than a 6". Confirm the swivel radius against your tightest turn before specifying the larger wheel for capacity alone.
