Manner casters explained

Manner casters are precision-engineered medical and equipment casters manufactured in Hanko, Finland by Manner Oy (Mannerin Konepaja Ab), a Colson Group company. The product family centers on two flagship series: the Tango single-wheel medical caster (75-125 mm, 70-100 kg per caster) and the Twist twin-wheel medical caster (125 mm, 125 kg per caster). Both are built with glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide forks and hubs that resist corrosion under repeated hospital disinfectant exposure. Stainless steel, conductive (ESD-safe), and non-magnetic (MRI-environment compatible) variants are produced for specialty healthcare applications.

Sizing & spec guide

How to choose the right Manner caster

Match the wheel diameter to your equipment's clearance, the load capacity to per-caster weight plus a 30% safety margin, and the variant (standard / conductive / non-magnetic / stainless) to your facility's regulatory environment.

  • Wheel diameter: 75 mm (2.95") for low-clearance applications · 100 mm (3.94") for general medical equipment · 125 mm (4.92") for hospital beds and high-load trolleys
  • Load capacity: Tango handles 70-100 kg (155-220 lb) per caster; Twist's twin-wheel design steps up to 125 kg (275 lb) per caster for hospital beds, patient lifts, and crash carts
  • Brake type: Total-stop locks both wheel rotation and swivel in one motion; directional-lock is available on select Twist variants for predictable straight-line tracking on long corridors
  • Variant: Conductive (ESD-safe) for surgical suites, electronics manufacturing, and ESD-sensitive carts · Non-magnetic for MRI-compatible equipment · Stainless for autoclave-adjacent or aggressive-chemical environments
  • Mounting: Bolt-hole (most common on Tango), plate, and threaded-stem variants are produced across the range — specify on your RFQ
Engineering note: 4-caster Twist arrays support standard 500 lb (227 kg) hospital bed loads with a full 30% safety margin. Source: CasterHQ application engineering, 2026.

Healthcare & equipment applications

Hospital Beds & Patient Lifts

Twist twin-wheel models with total-stop brake. 125 mm wheel, 125 kg per caster supports 500 lb total bed + occupant + accessory load across a 4-caster array with 30% margin.

Surgical & Procedure Carts

Tango or Twist conductive (ESD-safe) variant in OR suites and electronics-sensitive environments. Polyamide construction is fully wipe-down compatible with hospital-grade disinfectants.

MRI & Imaging Equipment

Non-magnetic Tango variant for MRI-compatible carts, IV stands, and imaging accessories. Zero ferrous content prevents field distortion and projectile risk.

Rehabilitation Equipment

Tango 100 mm on shower chairs, transfer aids, mobility devices, and parallel bars. Floor-protective rubber tread, quiet rolling on vinyl and polished concrete.

Institutional Kitchens

Stainless Tango variant for autoclave-adjacent and aggressive-chemical environments. NSF and food-service compatible. Serving trolleys, dietary carts, food prep equipment.

Treatment Chairs & Exam Tables

Twist directional-lock variant for predictable straight-line tracking on procedure room rails. Two height options match a wide range of equipment chassis designs.

Engineering insight

Why specifying engineers choose Manner

"When facilities call us asking why their existing metal-fork casters are corroding under wipe-down with quaternary ammonium disinfectants, we move them to Manner. The glass-fibre polyamide doesn't have a metal-on-metal pivot to oxidize. We've replaced thousands of these in DFW hospitals over the years and the polyamide fork outlives the original by a multiple. For OEM bed and lift builds, Twist's twin-wheel design with the total-stop pedal is what we spec by default — the lock indicator on the pedal actually tells nursing staff at a glance whether the brake is engaged, which is a real safety win on a busy floor."

Buyer FAQ

Common questions about Manner casters

Are Manner casters in stock in the USA?

Yes. CasterHQ is an authorized US distributor and stocks the full Tango and Twist range in our Mansfield, Texas warehouse. Standard SKUs ship in 3-5 business days from order placement. Custom configurations (special colors, non-standard tread compounds, large-volume OEM builds) ship from Manner's factory in Hanko, Finland with a 4-8 week lead time.

What's the difference between Tango and Twist?

Tango is a single-wheel medical caster (75-125 mm) rated to 70-100 kg per caster, used on shower chairs, rehab equipment, hospital furniture, kitchen carts, and shop equipment. Twist is a twin-wheel medical caster (125 mm) rated to 125 kg per caster, used on hospital beds, treatment chairs, patient lifts, and hospital trolleys. The Twist's brake pedal also includes a visual lock-status indicator that's particularly useful for nursing staff.

Are conductive (ESD-safe) and non-magnetic variants available?

Yes. Conductive (ESD-safe) variants exist across both Tango and Twist series for operating rooms, electronics-sensitive carts, and ESD-protected workstations. Non-magnetic variants for MRI-environment compatibility are produced primarily in the Tango series. Stainless steel variants are available in both series for autoclave-adjacent and aggressive-chemical environments. Specify the variant requirement when you submit your RFQ.

Why are Manner products quote-only instead of priced?

Manner casters are configured to the application — mounting (bolt hole, plate, threaded stem), variant (standard / conductive / non-magnetic / stainless), brake type, and freight class all affect the landed cost. Quoting by configuration gives procurement teams an accurate total cost (unit + freight + lead time) up front and prevents specification mismatches that result in returns.

Do you provide on-site caster service for DFW hospitals?

Yes — CasterHQ operates Caster Doctor, a turnkey on-site service for healthcare facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Our technicians audit every wheeled device in your facility, match the correct Manner replacement to each, quote parts + labor as a single bid, and install the new casters on a scheduled, off-hours basis. Manner Oy (Mannerin Konepaja Ab) is a Colson Group company, based in Hanko, Finland. Manner manufactures Colson Group's medical and equipment caster lines — Tango, Twist, and e-SMART — for US distribution through partners including CasterHQ.

Can I get STEP CAD files for design integration?

Yes. Every product page includes a direct STEP file download for the corresponding Manner item number. The files import natively into SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, PTC Creo, Siemens NX, and Dassault CATIA. PARASOLID and SAT formats are available on request for legacy CAD workflows.
