All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.

Polyurethane plate casters combine the chemical resistance, floor protection, and 200–2,000 lb load capacity of polyurethane wheels with the bolt-on flat-plate mount that is the industry standard for industrial equipment. CasterHQ stocks 326 polyurethane plate caster configurations across all five standard plate sizes — 2-1/2" × 3-5/8" through 5" × 6-1/4" — in swivel, rigid, and brake variants.
Match plate size to load class with 25% safety margin. Light duty (75–300 lb) uses 2-1/2" × 3-5/8". Medium duty (300–900 lb) uses 4" × 4-1/2". Heavy duty (1,200–2,000 lb) uses 4-1/2" × 6-1/4". Always verify the existing bolt pattern before replacing legacy hardware — older equipment may have non-standard centers.
Polyurethane is non-marking on commercial flooring, resists oils and solvents, handles 200–2,000 lb per caster, and rolls 30% quieter than cast iron. Phenolic handles higher static load but cracks under impact. Rubber is quieter but caps at 900 lb. Polyurethane is the compromise that wins 80% of industrial plate-caster specs.
Yes — side-lock, top-lock, and total-lock brake configurations are available across virtually every plate size. Side-lock for workbenches and shelving. Total-lock for medical, calibration, and OEM machinery. Brake adds 30–60% to caster cost.
What's the strongest polyurethane plate caster you stock? 5″ × 6-1/4″ plate with 8″ poly-on-iron wheel rated 2,000 lb per caster.
Are polyurethane plate casters non-marking? Yes — all CasterHQ polyurethane wheels are non-marking on commercial flooring.
Custom plate sizes available? Yes, on minimums of 100+ units with 3-4 week lead time.
Stainless steel plate casters available? Full 304 stainless across all 5 plate sizes.
Ship time? 94% of in-stock orders placed by 3pm CST ship same day from Texas.
Divide total cart weight by 3 (not 4) because uneven floors cause one caster to temporarily lift, redistributing load to the remaining three. Multiply by 1.25 for dynamic impact (rolling onto floor seams, dock plates, thresholds). Example: a 1,500 lb cart needs casters rated ≥ 625 lb each (1,500 ÷ 3 × 1.25).
| Class | Plate Size | Load/Caster | Bolt Pattern | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light Duty | 2-1/2″ × 3-5/8″ | 75–300 lb | 1-5/8″ × 2-7/8″ | Office carts, retail |
| Medium Duty Most Common | 4″ × 4-1/2″ | 300–900 lb | 2-5/8″ × 3-5/8″ | Warehouse, shop |
| Heavy Duty | 4-1/2″ × 6-1/4″ | 1,200–2,000 lb | 2-7/16″ × 4-15/16″ | Industrial dollies |
| Extra Heavy | 5″ × 6-1/4″ | 2,000 lb | 4-1/8″ × 5-1/4″ | Aerospace, transformers |
Standardized 600 warehouse cart conversions on CasterHQ's 4-inch polyurethane plate casters. Zero bolt-hole failures in 24 months versus our prior vendor's 40+ cracked plates in year one. Push force also dropped 18% on ergonomic testing.
