All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.

Cast iron is the low-cost pick for residential and light commercial gates. Ductile iron takes shock better, which matters on heavy gates that slam against a stop: at 6 in, going from cast iron to ductile lifts the rating from 1,000 lb to 3,500 lb in the 2-1/2 in width [S1]. NyloForce polymer wheels use 6205 sealed ball bearings and do not rust, listed for -40 to 250°F [S2], which makes them the quieter choice for gates near homes and offices.
Cast iron V-groove wheels list -45 to 600°F and ductile iron -45 to 800°F [S1], so they work in kilns and heat-treat track carts as well as outdoors. Bare iron rusts outside, so paint or grease exposed faces and keep the track clean of grit.
Gate setups: sliding gate wheels and casters. All rail wheels: track wheels.
Start with the gate weight and the angle iron size. Light gates often use 4 to 6 in cast iron wheels, rated 350 to 1,000 lb. Heavy gates call for ductile iron, rated 1,500 lb and up.
Cast and ductile iron will rust outdoors unless painted or greased. NyloForce polymer V-groove wheels are rust-free.
The 10 x 3 in ductile iron V-groove wheel, rated 7,000 lb.
They are made for angle-iron track. On a flat floor the groove carries the load on two thin edges and wears quickly.
