Pneumatic or rubber

8 and 10 in pneumatic: roll over lawn, gravel, pavers and curbs. This is the usual choice for moving a tub from the driveway to the back yard.
3-1/2 to 5 in thermo rubber: lower deck height and non-marking, for garages, patios and indoor floors.

How to move a hot tub on dollies

Drain it and cut the power. Turn off the spa breaker, disconnect the supply and pump the tub empty. Water weighs about 8.3 lb a gallon, so a 300 gallon tub holds roughly 2,500 lb of it.
Find the dry weight. It is on the spec label or in the owner's manual. One 50 x 28 in dolly is rated 1,400 lb. With the 2-pack, keep each end of the tub under 1,400 lb.
Measure the route. The tub rides on its side, so every gate, side yard and turn has to be wider than the tub is tall, with room for hands. The 50 x 28 in dolly adds 14-3/16 in under the tub.
Check the tires. Bring every pneumatic tire to the same pressure before you load. A soft tire on one corner lets the tub lean.
Stand the tub on its side and load it. Tip it up, slide the dolly under it, center it and strap the tub to the deck. Put a dolly under each end of a long tub.
Move it with a crew. Two people at minimum, more on slopes, and nobody on the downhill side. Lay plywood over soft lawn so the tires don't sink.

One dolly or the 2-pack

A single 50 x 28 in oak hot tub dolly works for a compact tub that balances on one deck. For a long tub, or one over 1,400 lb dry, get the hot tub dolly 2-pack and run one dolly under each end. Both ride on four 10 in pneumatic casters per dolly and ship LTL freight because of the deck size.

For smooth indoor floors and standard doorways, the 40 x 18 in oak dollies with non-marking rubber wheels sit lower and are rated 1,000 lb.
