Why low profile

Overall height is the distance from the floor to the top of the mounting plate or the base of the stem. A low caster keeps a cabinet, copier or display at the height it was designed for, sits under a toe kick, and lowers the center of gravity so tall furniture is steadier to move.

What you give up

  • Small wheels catch on door thresholds, grout lines and cords. Keep floors clear and smooth.
  • Push effort goes up with load on a small wheel. Over about 300 lb per corner, step up to the 3 in models.
  • Dual wheels swivel more easily than a single small wheel and spread the load over two treads.

Mounts

Plate models use a 2-5/8 x 3-3/4 in plate with a 1-3/4 x 2-3/4 in bolt pattern on the Shepherd line [S1]. Stem models come in 1/2-13 threaded stems and 7/16 x 1-3/8 in grip ring stems for wood and tube sockets. See threaded stem casters and sockets and T-nuts.
