All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.

Total locking casters lock wheel rotation and swivel at the same time to help keep equipment stable when parked. This hub covers popular total lock options including stem mount and plate mount configurations, plus wheel materials for different floors and environments.
Fit tip: confirm mount type (plate or stem), plate size or stem size, overall height, wheel diameter, and swivel clearance.

2-3/8" × 3-5/8" Plate Total Lock
Shop total lock options in common institutional plate size.

Threaded Stem Total Lock
Stem mount total lock options for equipment without a top plate.

Heavy Duty Total Lock Plate
4" × 4-1/2" plate options for higher capacity applications.
For best results, choose a mount style first, then select a wheel material that matches your floor and environment.
These categories group total locking casters by wheel material for the common 2-3/8" × 3-5/8" plate mount family (3"–5" wheels).

Phenolic Wheels
Low rolling resistance for smooth floors.

Thermo Rubber (TPR)
Quieter, floor-friendly indoor rolling.

Poly on Poly Wheels
Durable all-around option for many floors.

Blue Solid Poly Wheels
Tough, non-marking industrial performance.

Hard Rubber Wheels
Floor-friendly rolling with durable rubber tread.

Steel Wheels
Rugged wheel for durable floors and heavy use.

White Nylon Wheels
Hard, clean rolling wheel for many environments.

Polyolefin Wheels
Lightweight, chemical resistant wheel option.
Confirm mount type (plate or stem), plate size or stem size, bolt hole pattern, overall height, wheel diameter, and swivel clearance.
If you roll over thresholds, debris, ramps, or impacts, consider larger wheel diameters or a higher-duty caster series.
TPR is quieter, phenolic rolls easily on smooth floors, poly on poly is durable, solid poly is tough and non-marking, steel is rugged, nylon is hard and clean rolling, and polyolefin is lightweight and chemical resistant.
Total lock means the caster locks both the wheel from rolling and the swivel from turning at the same time.
Worktables, carts, medical and institutional equipment, retail fixtures, staging, and machinery that needs stability when parked.
For parked stability, yes. A standard brake may stop rolling but still allow swivel pivoting. Total lock reduces both.
Choose plate mount for top plate installation. Choose stem mount when your equipment uses a stem receiver and no top plate.
Yes, capacities are typically per caster under ideal conditions. Divide total load across all casters and add a safety factor.
Total lock helps reduce drift, but slopes add risk. Consider higher capacity and follow safe practices for incline use.
Thermo rubber (TPR) is often quieter and more floor-friendly for indoor environments.
Phenolic wheels typically offer very low rolling resistance on smooth, hard floors.
These calculators apply to any caster application—even if you’re browsing a different category. Use them to estimate load rating per caster, select wheel material, and estimate push/pull force. Expand any tool for full analysis + a share-ready spec line.
