Product Overview

5" Hi-Temp Glass Filled Nylon Wheel | Swivel Caster | Capacity: 350 lbs | Plate Size: 3-1/8" x 4-1/8"

Hi-Temp Glass Filled Nylon wheels are meant for high temperatures such as bakeries and ovens. These Wheels can withstand up to 550F intermittent (1 hour), and 475F continuous. These wheels are impervious to most chemicals, solvents, oils, salt, alkaline and water.Glass Filled Nylon are made for Wet and Corrosive environments where Water or Harsh Cleaning Chemicals including some mild acids are used. These wheels are very light but have a heavy load capacity due to the strength of nylon. Hi-Temp Glass Filled Nylon Wheels are reinforced with glass fibers for added strength. Please select either plain bore or a stainless bearing for applications that include, steam cleaning, wash down, grease, oil, or exposed to blood, salt, or any type of solvents. We typically sell these to many type of laboratory applications as well as animal clinics. These are used in Surgical rooms as well during operations where chemicals and blood are commonly exposed. You can also find these type of wheels being used in Schools, Cafeterias, and many Food Service Industries, Medical Industry Carts, Hospitals, Labs, and Bakeries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the load capacity of this caster?+

This 5" x 1-1/4" Hi-Temp Glass Filled Nylon Swivel Caster – 350 lb is rated to 350 lbs per caster. Size a set by dividing the total load by the number of casters, and for uneven floors assume 3 of 4 casters carry the load. Keep continuous-use loads within about 75-80% of the rating.

What wheel does this caster use?+

This caster runs a Nylon wheel with a 1-1/4" tread width. Nylon resists chemicals and moisture and carries high loads, which suits washdown and wet environments.

What plate size and bolt pattern does it use?+

This caster uses a top-plate mount with a 3-1/8" x 4-1/8" plate and a 1-3/4" x 2-15/16" slotted to 2-3/8" x 3-3/8" bolt pattern. Measure your existing mounting holes before ordering; if you are replacing casters, match the bolt pattern - most standard patterns interchange across brands.

Is this a swivel or rigid caster, and how does the brake work?+

This is a Swivel caster. Swivel casters rotate 360 degrees for full maneuverability. For most mobile equipment we recommend 2 swivel + 2 rigid, or 4 swivel with at least 2 brakes.

What temperature range can this caster handle?+

Rated for Up to 550°F. Operating outside the rated range can reduce wheel life and load capacity, so match it to your environment (wash-down, freezer, oven-adjacent, etc.).

What floors and applications is it best for?+

The Nylon wheel performs best on smooth, hard industrial floors. For non-marking or clean-environment needs, ask us about matching tread options.

What is the overall mounted height?+

The overall height (floor to top of plate or stem) is 6-1/4". Account for it when checking equipment clearance, dock height, and ergonomic working height.

How do I order, and what are the terms?+

We accept purchase orders and offer Net 30 on approved accounts, ACH, and all major cards, plus tax-exempt ordering with a resale or exemption certificate. Volume discounts apply automatically; request a bulk quote for large or recurring orders. Stock items carry a 30-day return policy in unused condition (made-to-order items are non-returnable once production starts).

Technical FAQs & Engineering Notes

Application guidance for load margin, wheel materials, and swivel construction. Confirm ratings against your duty cycle, floor, and temperature before final spec.

How do I properly factor the 25% safety margin into a multi-caster cart configuration?

Treat published load capacity as a continuous working limit, not a one-time peak. Divide total loaded cart weight (product + rack + fixtures) by the number of casters that share the load, then size so that working load per caster stays at or below about 75% of the rated capacity (a common ~25% margin). On four-wheel oven racks, uneven floors and thermal growth can shift load to two or three casters; if your process routinely parks on imperfect floors, engineer for three-caster support rather than perfect four-way share. Confirm ratings at your process temperature — heat softens many wheel compounds and can lower usable capacity versus room-temperature catalog numbers.

When must an application bypass standard polyurethane and spec high-temperature glass-filled nylon or phenolic wheels?

Bypass standard polyurethane when continuous or cyclic wheel temperatures exceed the urethane compound’s published service range (often well below typical bake / washdown-after-heat zones). Spec glass-filled nylon or phenolic (or other high-temp tread systems on the PDP) when racks enter ovens, proofers, or wash tunnels where tread softening, bond failure, or flat spots would appear with PU. Match the wheel to the hottest surface the tread sees, including residual heat after exit, and verify chemical exposure (cleaners, fats, steam) against the material notes on this product. When in doubt, ask for the temperature and duty cycle — we will confirm whether this SKU or a high-temp alternate is the right call.

Why do traditional kingpin swivel raceways fail prematurely under towing or AGV side-thrust loads compared to kingpinless alternatives?

A traditional kingpin clamps the swivel assembly through a single axial fastener. Repeated side thrust from towing, tugger lines, or AGV path corrections loads that pin and the raceway faces in ways ordinary cart steering does not. Over time that shows up as elongated kingpin holes, brinelled races, or loose swivels. Kingpinless (or forged integrated) raceways distribute thrust through a continuous race path instead of relying on that central pin — better suited when side loads are planned into the duty cycle. Oven-rack and high-temp lines still need the correct wheel material first; upgrade the swivel construction when towing or powered side loads are part of the application, not only when heat is.
