Hamilton SS Champion CHS Casters

The highest-rated stainless steel caster currently manufactured. Hamilton’s SS Champion CHS series puts the full Champion rigging into 304 stainless steel — same forged top plate, same precision raceway, same wheel options as the carbon-steel Champion, with 3/4″ double-shielded stainless precision ball bearings and 304 stainless hardware throughout.

Why CHS is the top of the stainless market

Most “stainless casters” in the industry are stamped-stainless frames with carbon-steel kingpins and standard ball bearings. CHS is different: everything in contact with the environment is 304 stainless — the forged top plate, the kingpin, the swivel raceway hardware, even the bearing shields. That’s why CHS handles full caustic washdown protocols without weeping rust through a kingpin seam after 18 months. It’s also why CHS costs roughly 2–3x what a stamped-stainless caster costs.

The Champion rigging itself is Hamilton’s standard heavy-duty platform — the same forged top plate and tapered raceway used on the carbon-steel Champion line that runs in steel mills, automotive plants, and foundries. CHS takes that rigging and converts every metal component to 304 stainless without giving up capacity.

Hamilton SS Champion CHS — the lineup

R-CHS-63SB

6″ x 3″ Rigid · 3,200 lb

The flagship rigid CHS. 6″ x 3″ Plastex wheel on a 3/4″ stainless precision ball bearing. 3,200 lb capacity per caster — the highest stainless rigid currently available. Spec’d as the 4 rigid corners on a 12,800 lb total platform.

S-CHS-13LPSB

10″ Plastex Swivel · 3,200 lb

10″ Plastex wheel on swivel rigging. Same 3,200 lb capacity as the rigid. The 10″ diameter rolls quietly over wet floor seams — popular in beverage and dairy processing.

S-CHS-12SWF95

12″ UltraGlide Triple Wheel Swivel

Triple-wheel construction at 12″ for maximum quiet roll. UltraGlide 95A polyurethane tread spreads load across three wheels — cuts rolling resistance by ~35% vs single-wheel at the same capacity. For long-distance manual push routes.

S-CHS-63SWC95

6″ x 3″ UltraGlide Triple Wheel Swivel · 2,600 lb

UltraGlide 95A triple-wheel in 6″ x 3″ swivel. 2,600 lb capacity. The standard CHS swivel for medium-load stainless platforms (food production, pharma).

When CHS is the right call

Spec CHS for: (1) pharmaceutical or biotech wash bays where stainless is mandated by GMP, (2) dairy, meat, and seafood processing with daily caustic washdown, (3) semiconductor fabs where particle generation from rust is unacceptable, (4) marine and shipyard equipment exposed to salt spray, (5) USDA/FDA-compliant food production lines that need verified stainless construction. Skip CHS if the environment is just “dusty” or “occasionally damp” — a sealed carbon-steel Champion will outlast the use case for less money.

Hamilton CHS FAQs

304 or 316 stainless?Hamilton CHS uses 304 stainless. 316 is available as a special-order on most CHS models for marine, chloride-exposure, or pharmaceutical specs requiring molybdenum content.
How does CHS compare to other stainless brands?CHS has the highest single-caster capacity (3,200 lb) of any production stainless. Albion and Faultless make stainless competitors but max out around 1,800–2,000 lb per caster.
Will the bearings hold up to washdown?Yes — CHS uses double-shielded stainless precision ball bearings. Spec a re-lube interval of 6–12 months for daily washdown environments; otherwise standard 24-month service.
What wheel options are standard?Plastex (Hamilton’s heat-treated polyolefin) is standard. Polyurethane Duralast, UltraGlide, and stainless-clad steel wheels are available as build options.
Lead time on CHS?Standard configurations ship within days. Custom CHS builds (316 SS, unusual wheel material) typically run 2–4 weeks.
