About the SRT-M-66

The SRT-M-66 is Stevens' ESCORT truck for vending machines, glass-door coolers and other tall, heavy cabinets. It is rated 1,200 lb and stands 66 in tall on a 1 in x 14 gauge steel frame. What sets it apart is the swing: a hinged rear frame with two retractable 3-1/2 in swivel casters. Release it and the casters drop to the floor behind the main wheels, so a heavy machine rolls on four wheels and the operator steers instead of holding the weight. With the swing released the truck works at about 55 degrees.

It keeps the ESCORT basics: patented roller bearing crawler treads, a 3-ply, 2-piece, 14 ft strap with ratchet tightener and automatic recoil, felt and non-marking vinyl padding. The footplate is 7 gauge steel, 5 x 24 in, heavier than the 9 gauge plate on the two-wheel trucks. Stevens names it second on its best-seller list.

How the SRT-M-66 compares to other Stevens models

  • SRT-M-60: Same truck, 60 in tall, 72 lb, $807.77 at Stevens list.
  • SRT-M-72: Same truck, 72 in tall, 77 lb, $843.68 at Stevens list.
  • Vender 72, 78 and 84: Stevens' heavier dedicated vending trucks on the price list; we can quote them.
  • SRT and SRT-8: Two-wheel appliance trucks for loads you can balance yourself.

SRT-M-66 features and what they do for you

  • Four wheels under tall loads. Retractable 3-1/2 in swivel casters carry the weight once the machine is tipped back.
  • 1,200 lb rating. Room for full-size snack and soda machines and commercial coolers.
  • 66 in frame. Reaches up the back of full-height cabinets so the strap holds them high.
  • 7 gauge footplate. Heavier plate for heavy cabinets.
  • Stair crawlers. Take a few steps at a loading door or landing without a second truck.
  • 8 in wheels. 8 x 2 in non-marking thermoplastic rubber wheels.

Who uses the SRT-M-66

  • Vending operators: Snack, soda and combo machines on route swaps and installs.
  • Beverage distributors: Glass-door coolers and merchandisers into convenience stores.
  • Commercial refrigeration: Reach-in refrigerators, freezers and ice machines.
  • Arcade and kiosk service: Game cabinets, ATMs and kiosks.

How to use the SRT-M-66

  1. Prep the machine. Unplug, empty product and coins, secure the door and any loose shelves. Check the machine's weight plate against the 1,200 lb rating.
  2. Load. Slide the footplate under the machine with the swing folded.
  3. Strap. Wrap the strap high around the cabinet, hook it and ratchet tight.
  4. Tip and release the swing. Tip the machine back and release the swing; the two swivel casters drop to the floor.
  5. Roll on four wheels. Push and steer. The casters swivel so you can turn in a break room or hallway.
  6. Stairs and steps. On steps, follow Stevens' operating instructions for the swing and the crawler treads, and use a helper with a loaded machine.
  7. Set down. Lift the swing, stand the truck upright, release the ratchet.

How ESCORT stair crawlers work

Behind each wheel is a crawler tread: an aluminum frame carrying a row of plastic roller bearings with a V-belt running over them. On flat ground the crawlers sit clear of the floor. On stairs, tip the truck to the balance point and the belt meets the step nosing. The belt rolls over the rollers, so the load glides from one step edge to the next instead of the wheels dropping off each tread.

Going up, the operator stands above the load, backs up the stairs and pulls. Going down, the operator stays below the load and lets the crawlers slide each edge while a helper steadies the top. Keep the strap tight and the load centered on the footplate the whole way.

What to expect from the SRT-M-66

Buyers of appliance and drum trucks most often mention these points in reviews. Here is how they apply to this model.

  • At 74 lb it is the heaviest truck we carry from Stevens. It is built to stay with the route vehicle, not to be lifted all day.
  • Kickout trucks shine on flat floors, ramps and liftgates. On stairs, follow Stevens' operating instructions for the swing and the crawlers and use a helper.
  • Big wheel attachments do not fit kickout trucks; the casters already give four-wheel support.
  • The crawler treads make stairs controlled, not effortless. The operator still pulls or lowers the load one step at a time, so plan on a second person below the load on any stairs.
  • A tight strap is what keeps an appliance on the truck. Ratchet it snug before you tip back, check it again at the top of the stairs, and replace a frayed or cut strap instead of knotting it.
  • Stevens ships from Augusta, Georgia by FedEx in about 72 hours. It is not stocked in our Texas warehouse, so order ahead of the job.

Buying guidance

  • Pick the height to match what you move most: 60, 66 or 72 in. The 66 covers most full-height snack and soda machines.
  • Big wheel attachments do not fit trucks with kickout wheels; the casters already give four-wheel support.
  • For the heaviest machines, ask about Stevens' Vender series.

What's in the box

  • One Stevens ESCORT SRT-M-66 with the rear swing caster frame, one 3-ply, 2-piece, 14 ft strap and auto-recoil ratchet.
  • Not included: strap extensions (S-11, S-12) and the repair kit.

Care and maintenance

  • Keep the swing release and its spring clean and free; a sticky release is the first thing to fix.
  • Check the swivel casters for flat spots and debris in the swivel.
  • Inspect the strap before each route; vending machines put a lot of load on it.
  • Clean the crawler treads after wet jobs.
  • Replace worn felt and vinyl.

Replacement parts

Stevens sells a repair kit for each model and individual parts from its parts list for every truck it builds. Send us the model number and the part you need and we will quote it. Call 844-439-4335.

About Stevens

Stevens Appliance Truck Company has built hand trucks in Augusta, Georgia since 1936 and describes itself as the oldest continuous hand truck maker in the United States. Every unit is built in Augusta with American-made components and labor.

The plant does its own CNC tube bending, press stamping, TIG and MIG welding and powder coating, then assembles and boxes each truck. Stevens builds more than 60 hand truck models and keeps a parts list for each one, so wear parts can be replaced instead of the whole truck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stevens SRT-M-66 questions and answers

What size vending machine can the SRT-M-66 move?

Machines and coolers up to 1,200 lb. The 66 in frame suits most full-height snack and soda machines; Stevens also builds a 60 in and a 72 in version.

What do the kickout casters do?

After you strap and tip the load, a hinged rear frame drops two 3-1/2 in swivel casters to the floor. The load then rolls on four wheels at about 55 degrees and you steer it instead of holding it.

SRT-M-66 or a two-wheel appliance truck?

For washers, dryers and ranges, a two-wheel SRT or SRT-8 is lighter and quicker. For tall, top-heavy machines over 800 lb, the SRT-M-66 carries the weight on its casters.

60, 66 or 72 in?

Match the frame height to the machines you move most. We list the 66 in and can order the SRT-M-60 or SRT-M-72.

Does it have stair crawlers?

Yes, ESCORT roller bearing crawler treads. Follow Stevens' operating instructions for stairs and use a helper.

Can it take a big wheel attachment?

No. Big wheel attachments do not fit trucks with kickout wheels.

How heavy is the truck?

74 lb.

What wears out first?

Straps, casters and the swing release spring. Stevens sells swivel caster C-2, release spring M-16, strap S-3 and crawler tread CT-1 as parts.
