All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
Load shown is the rated capacity of the whole truck.
Stevens Appliance Truck Company has built hand trucks in Augusta, Georgia since 1936 and makes the ESCORT appliance truck. Every model here is built there with American-made components and labor, and each one has a Stevens parts list, so straps, wheels, ratchets and crawler treads can be replaced for the life of the truck.
We carry the five trucks Stevens names as its best sellers, plus the two big wheel attachments that go with them. They cover most of what an appliance, vending or drum crew moves: two-wheel stair-climbing trucks rated 500 to 800 lb, a 1,200 lb vending truck with swivel kickout casters, and a four-wheel drum truck.
| Model | Type | Load capacity | Height | Wheels | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SRT-8 | Steel, 1 in tube | 800 lb | 60 in | 8 x 2-1/2 in solid rubber | 53 lb | $609.00 |
| SRT | Steel, 3/4 in tube | 750 lb | 60 in | 6 x 2 in cushion tread | 51 lb | $575.00 |
| MRT | Magnesium I-beam | 500 lb | 60 in | 6 x 2 in cushion tread | 41 lb | $665.00 |
| SRT-M-66 | Steel, 1 in tube | 1,200 lb | 66 in | 8 x 2 in + 2 swivel casters | 74 lb | $1,029.00 |
| DB-W24B | Steel drum truck | Ask us | Ask us | 4 phenolic, roller bearing | 48 lb | $589.00 |
| BWA-S | Attachment, steel trucks | 500 lb | n/a | 2 x 10 in flat free or air | 18 / 28 lb | from $325.00 |
| BWA-M | Attachment, magnesium trucks | Ask us | n/a | 2 x 10 in flat free or air | 19 / 26 lb | from $289.00 |
Under 500 lb and you lift the truck all day: MRT. Up to 750 lb on pavement: SRT. Up to 800 lb with gravel or grass: SRT-8. Tall machines up to 1,200 lb: SRT-M-66. Drums: DB-W24B.
Steel takes the most abuse and carries the higher ratings. Magnesium saves about 10 lb of truck weight.
6 x 2 in cushion tread for floors and pavement (SRT, MRT). 8 x 2-1/2 in solid rubber for rough ground (SRT-8). Add a big wheel attachment for lawns and sand.
Refrigerators, washers and ranges ride a two-wheel truck at the balance point. Vending machines and coolers are taller and heavier, so the SRT-M-66 puts them on four wheels. Drums need a hoop and toes, not a flat footplate.
Behind each wheel is a crawler tread: an aluminum frame carrying a row of plastic roller bearings with a V-belt running over them. On flat ground the crawlers sit clear of the floor. On stairs, tip the truck to the balance point and the belt meets the step nosing. The belt rolls over the rollers, so the load glides from one step edge to the next instead of the wheels dropping off each tread.
Going up, the operator stands above the load, backs up the stairs and pulls. Going down, the operator stays below the load and lets the crawlers slide each edge while a helper steadies the top. Keep the strap tight and the load centered on the footplate the whole way.
| Truck | Big wheel attachment |

Check the strap before every shift, clean grit out of the crawler treads after wet or sandy jobs, and replace torn vinyl or worn felt before steel can touch an appliance. Stevens sells a repair kit for each model and individual parts: wheels, straps, strap extensions, recoil ratchets, crawler treads and padding. Send us the model number and we will quote it.
Stevens' price list also carries the SRT-2R, SRT-HD, SRT-8HD and SRT-8-2R, the SRT-M-60 and SRT-M-72, the MR, MRT-2R, MRT-66, MRT-M-60 and MRT-M-66, the Vender 72, 78 and 84, the DB-W24 and a range of two-wheel hand trucks. Ask us and we will quote any of them.
Stevens Appliance Truck Company has built hand trucks in Augusta, Georgia since 1936 and describes itself as the oldest continuous hand truck maker in the United States. Every unit is built in Augusta with American-made components and labor.
The plant does its own CNC tube bending, press stamping, TIG and MIG welding and powder coating, then assembles and boxes each truck. Stevens builds more than 60 hand truck models and keeps a parts list for each one, so wear parts can be replaced instead of the whole truck.
