Heat kills the wrong wheel fast. Soft poly on a cure cart will flat-spot or gum up. Wrong plate from a bakery SERP will not bolt up. Measure continuous °F at the wheel, intermittent peaks, load per corner, plate size, grease duty, and wet vs dry — then choose phenolic, glass-filled nylon, epoxy, or metal.

Three heat paths — keep them separated
“Oven casters” search results love to mix bakery rack kits into finishing intent. That plate and duty mismatch costs money. Pick the path that matches your cart.
| Path | Typical job | Shop here |
|---|---|---|
| Powder / finishing | Cure ovens, paint/flash carts, autoclave-adjacent | heat-casters |
| Bakery oven rack | Rack ovens / bakery carts (hub titles cite 475°F continuous) | bakery-high-temperature-casters · oven-bakery wheels |
| BBQ / smoker | Outdoor pits — heat + weather + locks | bbq-pit-smoker-casters |

What fails on powder / finishing heat carts
Flat-spotted or softened tread
Soft polyurethane and rubber lose structure under sustained cure heat. Live heat hubs say polyurethane softens around 180°F — keep PU off the cure line. Flat spots also show up when a loaded cart parks locked on a softening tread, or when impact chips hard phenolic. Feel: thumping roll, harder push.
Seized swivel / locked raceway
Standard grease cooks out. Raceways load with powder overspray. Standard lithium grease is the wrong pick for sustained high heat — confirm high-temp grease or sealed HT bearings on the product page.
Melted or gummed polyurethane
PU that enters flash-off or cure can soften, hold overspray, and transfer residue. Do not replace like-for-like. Move to a heat-rated phenolic, glass-filled nylon, epoxy, or metal path after you measure duty.
Phenolic moisture swell
On the heat hub, phenolic is the dry-heat pick. Glass-filled nylon is the moist / wet-cycle pick — phenolic can absorb moisture and shift dimensions.
Wrong plate / wrong application path
Finishing builds commonly use 4″ × 4-1/2″ plates on the heat hub table. Bakery oven-rack SKUs commonly use 3-1/8″ × 4-1/8″. Ordering a “475°F oven caster” from a bakery listing into a finishing cart is a classic mismatch.
Spec checklist before you order
- Continuous operating °F — full duty cycle at the wheel (not oven setpoint alone)
- Intermittent / peak °F — cleaning spikes / overshoot
- Wet vs dry — phenolic for dry bake-down; glass-filled nylon for moist / wet-cycle
- Load per caster — confirm dynamic capacity on the product page; uneven floors mean fewer corners share load
- Plate / mount — common finishing: 4″ × 4-1/2″; common bakery oven-rack: 3-1/8″ × 4-1/8″ — measure yours
- Wheel Ø × tread and swivel vs rigid layout
- Grease / bearing duty — high-temp grease, sealed HT bearings, or plain-bore / bronze paths — confirm on the product page
- What fails today — flat spot, melted PU, seized raceway, moisture swell, missing lock
- Application path — powder/finishing · bakery · BBQ
°F bands in this guide come from live hub copy. Individual SKU ratings: see the product page.
Photo checklist (send with RFQ)
Email photos + measurements to info@casterhq.com or attach on request a quote:
- Top-down plate with ruler/caliper in frame
- Bolt-hole pattern (both axes; note slots)
- Side elevation / overall height
- Wheel face — Ø and tread width
- Failed tread / raceway close-up
- Wide cart / oven-mouth context shot
- Any nameplate / duty notes (still confirm on the product page — not Exact OEM claims)
Continuous vs intermittent
Size production carts to the continuous rating. Treat intermittent as brief headroom only — including catalog “timed heat/cool” definitions. Oven setpoint is not wheel temperature. Unclear? Request a quote with continuous °F, peak °F, load, plate size, and ship ZIP.
Temp band → material
Powder / finishing (heat-casters)
Hub title covers powder coating ovens, paint lines & autoclaves · 250°F to 1,300°F.
| Hub claim | Material path |
|---|---|
| 475°F continuous | Phenolic and epoxy resin |
| ~400°F | Glass-filled nylon (wet-cycle / solvent flash-off) |
| 500°F and up / Inferno to 750°F (hub list) | Forged steel / stainless paths |
| 1,300°F continuous | Steel wheel |
| PU softens ~180°F | Keep polyurethane off cure lines |
Hub context: powder-coat cure cycles commonly run 350–450°F for 20–30 minutes dry heat. Hub capacity language: 300–1,630 lb per caster on 4″–8″ wheels; steel to 2,400 lb — per SKU see product page.
Wheels / phenolic hubs
- High-temperature wheels: FAQ cites 350°F continuous, 500°F intermittent depending on material
- Phenolic wheels: FAQ cites 350°F continuous, 500°F intermittent; 300–1,500 lb per wheel
Bakery sibling (not powder)
Bakery hub titles 475°F applications. Oven-bakery hub titles 475°F continuous, epoxy & nylon. Series table language: Z20P epoxy 475/550°F, nylon 475/530°F, phenolic 475/550°F — confirm on the product page.
Phenolic vs glass-filled nylon vs epoxy vs metal
| Material | Prefer when… | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|
| Phenolic | Dry bake-down / many finishing plate builds | Moisture swell in steam / wash |
| Glass-filled nylon | Moist / wet-cycle / solvent flash-off | Finishing hub ~400°F language — confirm SKU; bakery tables may list higher |
| Epoxy (Z20P path) | Bakery oven-rack 475°F continuous | Often 3-1/8″ × 4-1/8″ plate — measure |
| Forged steel / stainless | Higher bands per heat hub (500°F+) | Floor marking, noise, weight |
| Polyurethane | Cool zones only | Softens ~180°F |
Wet vs dry duty
- Dry powder cure → phenolic / epoxy paths rated for your continuous °F
- Moist / wet-cycle / solvent flash-off → glass-filled nylon on the finishing hub
- Bakery steam / wash → check wet-OK notes on the oven-bakery hub, then the product page
- Autoclave-adjacent → confirm the cart and the SKU; there is no universal autoclave rating here
Plate mismatch: finishing vs bakery
| Common hub plate (measure yours) | Typical path | Shop |
|---|---|---|
| 4″ × 4-1/2″ | Powder / finishing phenolic plate builds | heat-casters |
| 3-1/8″ × 4-1/8″ | Bakery / OEM-style oven rack | oven-bakery hub |
Grease & bearing duty
Standard lithium grease is the wrong pick for sustained high heat. Confirm high-temp grease, sealed HT bearings, plain-bore, or bronze / solid bushing language on the product page. Powder overspray jams open raceways. Unclear grease duty → request a quote with continuous °F and failure photos.
When to buy stock vs when to RFQ
| Buy stocked SKU when… | RFQ / Net30 when… |
|---|---|
| Plate, Ø, tread, continuous °F, and layout match a live product page | Multi-cart lines, plant standardization, blanket POs |
| One cart / small repair, dims verified | Continuous vs intermittent or grease duty unclear |
| Card checkout is acceptable | Need Net 30 (fee 0 policy), tax-exempt, ACH, freight |
Stocked SKUs typically ship same or next business day from Mansfield, TX when ordered before daily cutoff (see product page / hub). Larger plant orders may ship freight — confirm on the quote.
Sibling picks — bakery oven rack
Different plate and duty. Do not drop these into finishing carts without measuring.
Hubs: Bakery high-temperature casters · Oven-bakery wheels
BBQ path (adjacent — outdoor)
Confirm outdoor finish and lock needs on the product page. Do not spec these as drop-in powder-cure casters.
When these are NOT interchangeable
Do not assume drop-in if continuous °F is below your hold temperature; you only matched intermittent language; the plate bolt pattern differs; a wet-cycle steam cart gets dry-only phenolic; grease duty does not match; outdoor BBQ needs weather + locks but you ordered indoor finishing casters; or you need Exact OEM brand fit without measured evidence.
CasterHQ is an independent supplier. We do not claim Exact OEM brand fit without measured or manufacturer-documented evidence.

Frequently Asked Questions
What caster survives a powder-coating cure oven?
For many dry cure cycles, heat-casters points to phenolic casters rated 475°F continuous on zinc or stainless rigs with high-temp grease. Hub context: powder-coat cure commonly 350–450°F for 20–30 minutes dry heat. Confirm continuous rating and capacity on the SKU you buy.
Phenolic or glass-filled nylon?
Dry bake-down → phenolic. Moist / wet-cycle / solvent flash-off → glass-filled nylon. Confirm °F and capacity on the product page.
Continuous vs intermittent — which number do I use?
Size production carts to continuous. Intermittent is brief peak / timed heat-cool headroom only.
Is a bakery 475°F rack caster the same as a powder-line caster?
No. Different hubs and often different plate sizes (3-1/8″ × 4-1/8″ vs 4″ × 4-1/2″ common on hubs). Use bakery hubs for rack ovens; heat-casters for finishing.
What plate size do powder oven carts use?
Common finishing plate on the heat hub table is 4″ × 4-1/2″ — common, not universal. Measure the bolt pattern.
Do I need high-temperature grease?
Standard lithium grease is not the right pick for sustained high heat. Confirm HT grease / sealed HT bearings (or plain-bore / bronze) on the product page.
Will phenolic work in washdown or steam?
Finishing hub copy prefers nylon for moist / wet-cycle heat because phenolic can absorb moisture and shift dimensions. Confirm wet-OK notes on the specific product page.
Can I use BBQ pit casters on a powder oven cart?
Do not mix those jobs. BBQ hubs optimize outdoor weather + lock-for-cook. Spec the finishing hub for cure carts.
Why not polyurethane?
Live heat hubs state polyurethane softens around 180°F and can hold overspray. Keep PU off sustained heat duty.
Do you offer Net 30?
Yes for qualified accounts — fee 0 on Net30. Card checkout about 3–4%. Call 844-439-4335 or request a quote.
Where do you ship from?
