All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.

The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.

W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.

Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.

The 4″ x 1-1/2″ size is almost entirely a high-temperature spec. Buyers landing here typically need oven rack casters or paint booth cart replacements — the Z20P epoxy resin, glass-filled nylon, and high-temp swivel variants dominate the 73 products on this page. Capacity 300-500 lb per caster, mostly on the 3-1/8″ x 4-1/8″ oven rack plate or 4″ x 4-1/2″ medium-heavy plate. If you’re NOT working in high-temp applications and just need a standard 4″ light-medium caster, the 4″ x 1-1/4″ size class is the dominant non-heat spec.

Why does this collection skew high-temp?

The 4″ x 1-1/2″ wheel size matches the specific dimensional spec on commercial bakery rack ovens (Baxter, Hobart, BKI). Manufacturers chose this size for the wheel-to-floor clearance + capacity combination at oven rack mounting heights. Standard light-medium duty applications converged on the slightly narrower 4″ x 1-1/4″ spec instead — cheaper to manufacture, sufficient capacity for non-heat use.

Will 4″ x 1-1/4″ fit a 4″ x 1-1/2″ mount?

The plate dimensions sometimes match, but the wheel itself is narrower in the yoke — the 1-1/4″ wheel rattles in a 1-1/2″ yoke and the bearing wears prematurely. If you’re changing tread width, replace the entire caster — not just the wheel.

Z20P vs glass-filled nylon — which one?

Z20P epoxy resin for DRY heat applications (paint booth, dry-cycle bakery) at 500 lb capacity. Glass-filled nylon for moist-heat / steam-cycle applications (autoclaves, proofers, smokehouse) at 350 lb capacity. Both rated 475°F continuous, 530-550°F intermittent.
