What to check before replacing drywall cart wheels — the 8" x 2" TPR spec, rigid vs swivel positions, and per-caster capacity for loaded sheetrock carts.
Drywall cart casters carry panel carts hauling stacked sheet rock, plywood, and board across job sites. A loaded 4x8 drywall stack concentrates 1,000 to 4,000 lb on four casters over rough, debris-covered concrete, so these use 8" wheels with mold-on rubber or polyurethane treads and heavy gauge frames.
Mold-on rubber rolls over screws, chunks, and cord without cutting, and it's quiet in occupied buildings; it trades away some capacity. Polyurethane on iron carries more weight and shrugs off overloading, but transmits more vibration on rough slab. For most panel carts: 8" mold-on rubber for finish-phase interior work, 8" poly on iron for rough framing loads. Either way, bigger diameter beats harder tread on debris, an 8" wheel bridges what a 5" wheel slams into.

Drywall and panel carts haul stacks of heavy sheet rock and panels around construction sites. The casters need to handle: heavy concentrated loads (4x8 panels are heavy), rough concrete and unfinished floors, threshold crossings, occasional outdoor use, and abuse. Moving finished furniture or appliances on the same job site calls for a padded deck and softer tread instead — start from our furniture dollies range.
Standard drywall sheet weighs 50-70 lb. A loaded panel cart with 12-15 sheets is 750-1,000+ lb total. Need 250+ lb per caster.
Larger wheels (8-10 inch pneumatic) for rough concrete and dock plates. Smaller (5-6 inch polyurethane) for indoor finished floors and finished construction.
Most drywall carts use 4 x 4-1/2 plate-mount casters. Match your existing cart's mount dimensions.
