All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.
This is CasterHQ's deepest extreme-capacity hub — every caster rated extra-heavy-duty and above, up to 40,000 lb per caster, in one place. Maxi-Duty, Ultra Maxi-Duty, EMD2 dual-wheel, super-duty kingpinless: the engineered platforms that move turbines, press frames, aerospace fixtures, and shipyard sections.

Hamilton Extra Heavy Duty casters carry up to 40,000 lb per caster on UltraGlide polyurethane, forged steel, or cast iron wheels. Match wheel material to floor condition and capacity tier to the worst-case load.
| Series / Config | Size | Capacity | Wheel | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extra Heavy Duty, forged steel | 8"–12" | up to 40,000 lb | Forged steel | Foundry transfer, die carts on hard floors |
| Extra Heavy Duty, UltraGlide poly | 8"–12" | up to 20,000 lb | UltraGlide polyurethane on steel core | Towlines, floor protection, lower push force |
| Extra Heavy Duty, cast iron | 8"–12" | up to 30,000 lb | Cast iron | Aerospace tooling, dry hard floors |
| Extra Heavy Duty, forged steel | 6"–8" | up to 15,000 lb | Forged steel | Compact heavy fixtures, restricted footprint |

Add the static load and any payload, divide by the number of load-bearing casters, then add 25% margin over the worst-case caster. On a 4-caster rig, assume 3 casters carry the load during a floor transition, not 4. Size each caster for that worst case, not the even-split average.
Forged steel reaches the full 40,000 lb on smooth hard floors and tolerates chips and debris. UltraGlide polyurethane on a steel core protects finished floors and lowers push force, topping out near 20,000 lb. Cast iron sits between the two for dry hard-floor service. Specify steel for foundry and forge debris, poly where the floor must stay unmarked.
Top plate is standard for towlines and die carts and spreads load across the deck. For the highest fixed loads, confirm the plate bolt pattern and deck thickness match the caster rating, and use Grade 8 hardware. Kingpinless swivel construction is available where shock loading would fatigue a conventional kingpin.
Heavy plant, forge, defense, and aerospace floors expose casters to heat, metal chips, and shock. Forged steel and cast iron handle debris and heat better than polyurethane. In foundry and heat-adjacent zones, verify the wheel rating against floor temperature and avoid polyurethane near radiant heat sources.
It is Hamilton's top-capacity caster class, rated up to 40,000 lb per caster on forged steel, cast iron, or UltraGlide polyurethane wheels. It is built for towlines, die carts, foundry transfer, and aerospace tooling where a standard heavy-duty caster would be overloaded. Heavy gauge plates and oversized legs carry the load without deflection.
Up to 40,000 lb per caster on the forged steel wheel configuration. Polyurethane configurations top out lower, near 20,000 lb, because the tread limits the rating. Always size to the worst-case caster load, not the even-split average across the rig.
UltraGlide polyurethane on a steel core, solid forged steel, and cast iron. Forged steel gives the highest capacity and best debris tolerance. UltraGlide polyurethane protects finished floors and lowers push force. Cast iron suits dry hard-floor service at high capacity.
Towlines, die carts, foundry transfer carts, and aerospace tooling fixtures are the core applications. The series fits heavy plant, forge, defense, and aerospace floors where loads run from 15,000 to 40,000 lb per caster.
Yes. Hamilton has manufactured casters in Hamilton, Ohio since 1907. Extra Heavy Duty casters are built domestically, which supports defense and aerospace supply-chain requirements and keeps replacement and custom configurations available.
Provide the worst-case load per caster, floor condition, mount plate or stem requirement, and overall height limit. We match those to the correct wheel and capacity tier and confirm the Hamilton part. Call 844-439-4335 or send your existing caster spec for a direct cross-reference.
