All measurements indicate the wheel diameter by the tread width.
The below capacity ranges indicate the working (dynamic) load that each caster will support. A safety factor should be included in your formula to determine your required load rating per caster.
W/(C-1)=R W is total weight needed to move. C is total number of casters required. R is ideal load rating, with safety factor built in. Divide the total load weight by one less caster than you will use to safely determine load rating.
Plate dimensions shown are overall mounting plate size.
When replacing existing casters, select the closest plate size and verify bolt-hole compatibility.
BHP = Bolt Hole Pattern, shown under each plate.

Service carts and small utility carts (under 24" deck): 3-inch wheels. Standard industrial and commercial platform carts: 4-inch or 5-inch wheels. Heavy manufacturing platforms, large platform trucks, and tilt trucks: 5x2" or larger. Hotel housekeeping carts and high-clearance equipment: 8-inch wheels. Smaller wheels turn easier and fit tight space, larger wheels handle bumps and uneven floors better.
Default for retail and warehouse: polyurethane (non-marking, 300 to 1,100 lb depending on hub). For ovens, bakeries, dish rooms, and any sustained heat above 180°F: phenolic (350 lb, heat-resistant). For hospital, food prep, and soft-floor applications: thermo rubber or hard rubber (225 to 600 lb, quieter, gentler on tile and vinyl). For chemical and food contact with frequent wash-down: nylon or polyolefin. Match material to where the cart actually lives.
If you're replacing wheels on a Rubbermaid tilt truck, Lavex housekeeping cart, or other branded fleet equipment, order the OEM-spec replacement (we stock both). For universal cart frames, match by plate size: most commercial carts use the 2-3/8" x 3-5/8" top plate, while heavy industrial carts use the 4" x 4-1/2" plate. Measure the existing plate corners before ordering — bolt-pattern mismatch is the most common return reason.
Most carts that hold position while loaded or unloaded benefit from total lock casters — both wheel and swivel lock at the same time. Service carts, AV equipment, prep tables, lab carts, and housekeeping carts all benefit. Pure transport carts (platform trucks moving constantly) may not need total lock at all corners — a 2 total lock + 2 rigid mix gives directional control while still locking in place.

CasterHQ stocks 37 cart-grade caster configurations at our Mansfield, TX facility — from 3-inch service-cart wheels up to 8-inch housekeeping-cart wheels, in polyurethane, phenolic, thermo rubber, hard rubber, nylon, and polyolefin. We carry OEM-spec replacements for Rubbermaid tilt trucks (FG1013L2, FG9T14L1) and Lavex housekeeping carts. 99 percent of orders ship same or next business day. Bulk fleet orders over 100 casters ship freight. Caster mechanisms are engineering-reviewed for cycle life and consistent operation.
Cart casters are heavy-duty wheel-and-swivel-frame assemblies designed for utility, platform, service, housekeeping, and industrial carts. They differ from general-purpose casters by typically including a total lock brake (wheel + swivel) and being rated for the higher dynamic loads carts see in real-world use — usually 200 to 1,100 lb per caster.
Common sizes: 3-inch on service and tool carts, 4-inch and 5-inch on commercial and industrial platform carts (the most popular size range), 5x2" on heavy manufacturing platforms, and 8-inch on housekeeping carts and equipment that needs to clear thresholds. Match the wheel size to the deck size and floor type.
Yes — we stock direct OEM replacement casters for Rubbermaid FG1013L2 (4-inch hard rubber swivel, 300 lb) and the FG9T14L1 (10-inch flat-free rear wheel, 550 lb). These are spec-match parts, not aftermarket equivalents. Browse the Rubbermaid sub-collection tile above for the complete OEM set.
For most retail, office, and warehouse utility carts: polyurethane — non-marking, 300 to 350 lb dynamic capacity, decade of service life on smooth floors. For carts that see heat exposure (kitchens, ovens, bakeries): phenolic. For hospital, library, and noise-sensitive carts: thermo rubber. The wheel material matters more than any other spec for cart life.
Yes — we stock sets of 4 in two configurations: 4 total locking casters (every corner locks) or 2 total lock + 2 rigid (lock at the steering end, rigid track at the rear). Sets save 18 to 25 percent vs single-SKU pricing and ensure all 4 casters match exactly in mount height and wheel diameter.
Light duty cart casters (300 to 350 lb per caster, 2-3/8" x 3-5/8" plate) cover most retail, office, and service carts. Heavy duty cart casters (1,100 lb+ per caster, 4" x 4-1/2" plate, polyurethane on iron) cover platform trucks, manufacturing fixtures, and tilt trucks. The plate size and per-caster capacity rating tell you which class you need.
Most cart casters in this collection are designed for indoor use — smooth or semi-smooth floors. Polyurethane and rubber wheels handle indoor floors well. For outdoor carts that see uneven terrain, gravel, or moisture, choose pneumatic or flat-free wheels (the Rubbermaid 10-inch flat-free wheel in this collection works outdoors).
Most commercial and industrial carts use plate-mount casters with bolts. The standard light-duty plate is 2-3/8" x 3-5/8". The heavy-duty plate is 4" x 4-1/2". Some lighter service carts use threaded stems instead — if your cart has a threaded socket in each leg, you need a stem caster, not a plate caster.
Yes — the 2 swivel + 2 rigid configuration is industry standard for platform trucks and large industrial carts. The 2 rigid casters at one end provide directional tracking (the cart "wants" to go straight); the 2 swivel casters at the steering end let you maneuver. Our 5" x 2" mixed set is engineered for this configuration.
99 percent of orders — single casters and sets — ship same or next business day from our Mansfield, TX warehouse via FedEx Ground. Heavy industrial sets (5" x 2" sets of 4) ship Ground or LTL depending on quantity. Pallet orders over 100 casters ship freight with 24 to 48 hour transit to most U.S. metros. Cutoff is 2pm Central.
