Industries we serve

Case goods casters are specified across professional industries where floor protection, quiet operation, and shock absorption matter as much as load rating. Common applications include:

Music IndustryTouring sound, lighting, video racks, road cases, instrument carts
Film & Photo StudiosCamera dollies, lighting carts, set dressing, prop carts
Recording & BroadcastStudio rolling racks, broadcast carts, ENG kits, control surfaces
Theater & StageProp carts, stage decks, wardrobe racks, scenic dollies
Museums & GalleriesArt handling carts, archive carts, exhibit setup — non-marking essential
AV Rental & Trade ShowRental fleet road cases, booth equipment, mobile DJ rigs
Hospital & LabQuiet-roll equipment carts, rolling instrument racks
Library & ArchiveBook carts, archival storage carts on hardwood and tile

Why Elastique blue rubber wins on case goods

The blue elastic rubber compound is engineered for the failure modes that hurt case goods carts most. Standard hard polyurethane wheels mark hardwood and transmit shock to fragile electronics. Pneumatic wheels go flat under stage and transit conditions. Elastique solves both:

Performance Why it matters on case goods
Non-marking Safe on hardwood stages, polished concrete galleries, vinyl studio floors, sealed sport surfaces
Shock absorbing Protects sensitive electronics, mixers, lenses, art crates from impact during load-in and transit
Debris-shedding Sheds gravel, sawdust, glitter, cable scraps that get embedded in softer wheels
Quiet roll Critical for live sound, broadcast, theater, museum, and clinical settings
Roller bearing Sustained capacity over thousands of load-in/load-out cycles without degradation
No air loss Solid rubber — no flat tires mid-tour, no air pumps in the truck

Engineer Tip — Jordan Wilson

For touring rigs, I always recommend two swivel + Total Lock brake casters on the front (load-in side) and two rigid on the rear. The brakes hold the case in place on a stage rake or load-in alley, and the rigid rears track straight when you're pushing through narrow corridors. For studio dollies that stay mostly stationary, four total-lock swivels give you precise positioning and full immobilization for camera moves.

Frequently asked questions

What is a case goods caster?

A case goods caster is a wheel engineered for rolling cases, racks, and carts that transport sensitive equipment — typically used in music touring, film and photo studios, broadcast, theater, museum art handling, and AV rental. The defining requirements are non-marking wheel material, quiet roll, shock absorption, and reliable bearing performance over high cycle counts.

Why blue elastic rubber instead of polyurethane?

Blue elastic rubber is softer than industrial polyurethane, which gives it superior shock absorption and quiet-roll behavior. It is non-marking on hardwood, polished concrete, vinyl, and sealed sport floors. Polyurethane wheels can leave marks on hardwood and transmit more impact to fragile case contents.

Will Elastique work on outdoor surfaces?

Elastique is a rubber compound and works on dry asphalt, concrete, and load-in alleys. For prolonged outdoor use, sustained UV exposure, or wet conditions, ask us about phenolic or pneumatic alternatives.

What capacity do I need for a typical road case?

Most road cases run 4 casters. Capacity per caster × 4 × 0.77 (1.3× safety factor for moving loads) = usable cart load. A 4-caster cart with E422RB casters (330 lb each) carries about 1,015 lb. For heavy guitar amps, lighting trusses, or video racks, step up to E522RB (440 lb each = 1,355 lb) or E622RB (660 lb each = 2,033 lb).

Are these the same casters used on professional ATA road cases?

Yes. The Colson Elastique series is a common spec on ATA-style flight cases, anvil cases, rack-mount cases, and custom road cases used by national touring acts, broadcast networks, and rental houses. The Total Lock brake variants are particularly popular for stage-positioned cases.

What is the lead time?

In stock at our Mansfield, TX warehouse. Quantities 1-100 ship same-day for orders placed before 2:00 PM Central. Production runs above 100 ship within 1-2 business days, or drop-ship from Colson factory.

Do you offer the Elastique series in stem-mount?

The flyer covers the plate-mount range. We can source stem-mount and threaded-stem variants from Colson on request — call 844-439-4335 or request a quote with your stem dimensions and capacity requirement.
