How to Choose

1. Identify Your Hand Truck Brand

Brand stickers, frame stamps, or invoice records. B&P Liberator, Wesco, Magliner, Cosco, and Dayton each have proprietary parts (noses, handles, axles) and shared parts (wheels, tubes, accessory bags). Confirm the brand before ordering.

2. Pick the Right Part Family

Wheels: most common replacement. Noses: bent or split, replace as a unit. Handles: cracked or bent steel, look for OEM match. Axles: usually 5/8" with cotter pin retention. Brakes: drum or band, brand-specific.

3. Wheel Match

Match wheel diameter, hub width, axle bore, AND hub offset. 10" x 2-3/4" with 2-1/4" offset hub does NOT interchange with 10" x 3-1/2" centered hub. Look at the offset on your existing wheel before ordering.

4. When to Replace vs Repair

Tubes and tires: replace. Bent nose: usually replace, repair welds fail under load. Cracked handle: replace immediately — safety issue. Worn bearings: replace the wheel, bearings rarely sold separately.

Engineer Tip: On 10" pneumatic hand truck wheels, the most common failure is the inner tube, not the tire casing. A $15 tube replacement saves a $60 wheel replacement. Carry one spare tube per hand truck in service. Check tire pressure monthly — underinflation kills tubes from sidewall flex.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which hand truck brands does CasterHQ carry parts for?

B&P Liberator (primary — we stock the full accessory line), Wesco, Magliner, Cosco, Dayton, and generic steel hand trucks. Some parts are universal (wheels, tubes); others are brand-specific (noses, handles, latches).

How do I identify my hand truck brand?

Look for a brand sticker or stamp on the frame, usually near the handle or on the nose plate. B&P Liberator has "Liberator" stamped on the side rail. Wesco uses red paint and "Wesco" on the frame. Magliner is aluminum (silver) with model number stamped near the brake. If unsought, photograph the hand truck and call us at 844-439-4335 — we can identify from photos.

Are 10-inch pneumatic hand truck wheels interchangeable?

Mostly yes — standard 10" x 3.50-4 pneumatic wheels with 5/8" axle bore fit most steel hand trucks. Check hub width and offset before ordering. Some Magliner aluminum trucks use 4-bolt mounted wheels that do NOT interchange with hub-axle wheels.

Can I convert a pneumatic hand truck to flat-free?

Yes, if hub width and axle bore match. Eco-rubber flat-free wheels are direct replacements for pneumatic wheels of the same dimensions. Trade-off: flat-free runs slightly heavier and rides firmer. We recommend flat-free for hand trucks used on construction sites or anywhere flats are common.

What is a "nose plate"?

The nose plate is the flat L-shaped piece at the bottom of the hand truck that slides under the load. Aluminum nose plates resist bending; steel nose plates are heavier and more prone to deformation under shock load. 18" x 10" is the most common size on full-size hand trucks.

How do I replace a hand truck wheel?

Block the hand truck on its back, remove the cotter pin from the axle, slide the wheel off, fit the new wheel, replace the cotter pin. 5-10 minute job. If the axle is bent or rusted, replace the axle too — we stock universal 5/8" axles.

Do you sell hand truck brakes?

Brakes (drum brakes, band brakes, dead-man brakes) are brand-specific. We carry brake parts for B&P Liberator. For other brands, contact the manufacturer or check the parts diagram. Brakes are also a safety-critical part — replace immediately when worn, do not field-repair.

What is a B&P Liberator accessory bag?

A canvas pouch that mounts to the frame of a Liberator-series hand truck. Holds straps, paperwork, fasteners, and small tools. Common on freight and equipment-delivery hand trucks. We stock the OEM bag.
