If only the wheel is damaged (flat spots, gouged tread, locked-up bearing) and the caster frame and stem are still solid, order the wheel-only SKU and reuse the existing frame. If the swivel mechanism is rusted, the stem is bent or stripped, or the kingpin rattles, order the complete swivel caster with stem. Complete casters cost more but install in 30 seconds with a single thread-on. Wheel-only requires pressing out the old axle with a hammer and a 5/16-inch punch.
Virtually every retail shopping cart manufactured in the last 20 years uses a 1/2-13 threaded stem that is 7/8 inch long. That's the spec on these P&H casters. If your cart is older, European, or non-standard (some Costco, Wegmans, certain Whole Foods variants), measure the existing stem first. Threaded length matters more than diameter — a stem that bottoms out before tightening will loosen under load.
Polyurethane is the default for retail tile and warehouse concrete. Quiet, non-marking, 350 lb dynamic capacity, decade of service life. TPR rubber and soft blue rubber are for grocery, hospital, and softer floors — quieter rolling but lower capacity (200 lb) and faster tread wear. Polyolefin shows up in 250-pack and larger bulk packs as a tougher fleet option for enterprise grocery chains where wheels get abused.
